(a)

The Magpies return to FA Cup action on Saturday, facing Aston
Villa in a Fourth Round tie at Villa Park.
As per the Third

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division get a couple of hours head start.
Note that emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify because of your points total, just log
on and complete your purchase regardless.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants within 48 hours are offered
to unsuccessful applicants with the next highest loyalty points total. NUFC contact them directly.

gone.
2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.

On This Day in History |

12th February |
|
Born Or Died:
1959
Mick Harford
born, sunderland.
(1980-81 & 1982)
United's
search for a new striker during the 1980/81 season took them to Sincil Bank -
home of Fourth Division Lincoln City.
£180K secured the services of the lean but lanky wearsider, who
debuted in a 0-0 draw at Grimsby Town on Boxing Day.
And after a 0-2 home loss to Derby and another 0-0 stalemate at
Wrexham, Mick announced his arrival with the only goal of our unexpected 1-0
win at promotion favourites Luton Town - a soft shot that somehow crept into
the Hatters goal.
United fans had to wait another two months for his next goals though: a
brace to defeat Preston North End in monsoon conditions at St.James' Park.
His fourth and final goal then arrived in a 3-1 season closing home win over
Orient, as manager Arthur Cox ended his first season in charge with a
thoroughly underwhelming 11th placed finish - two positions worse than the
previous Bill McGarry campaign.
By the next season United had gone back into the transfer market for
Everton's Imre Varadi and Harford had been sold to Third Division
Bristol
City for a
£20K
loss.
Mick rejoined Newcastle in March 1982 in
what was no more than a paper transfer due to financial problems at Ashton
Gate, signing for Birmingham City immediately.
A £250K move to Luton Town in December 1984 began an association with the
Hatters that saw him established as top-flight striker, collect a League Cup
winner's medal and win two
England caps.
Bobby Robson selected him as a substitute
during a 0-0 friendly draw with Israel in
Tel Aviv and then in side
for a 1-0
friendly win over Denmark at
Wembley.
Sold to Derby County for £450,000 in January 1990, Harford was back at Luton
just over 18 months later but proved unable to prevent their top-flight
relegation.
Moves to Chelsea, the mackems, Coventry
City and Wimbledon saw him score
against us with monotonous regularity - hitting winning goals in three
successive seasons (at Stamford Bridge in 1992, Highfield Road in 1993 and
Selhurst Park in 1994).
Having made the transition from player to coach at the Dons under the
management of Joe Kinnear after calling time on his playing career in
1997,
Harford followed JFK to Luton and
Nottingham Forest.
Kinnear's departure from the City Ground in December 2004 saw Mick
take over
as caretaker boss, leaving when another SJP old boy, Gary
Megson, was given the post.
A brief stint coaching at Swindon Town then
led to the Rotherham United manager's job
in April 2005, although he was gone by December of that year.
Keeping his hand in by coaching at Oldham Athletic
and Millwall, Harford next popped up on the staff at Colchester United, before
popping up at QPR as John Gregory's No.2.
2008 then saw him return to Kenilworth Road once again, taking
charge of Luton Town for the rest of the season and staying in the role
despite the Hatters receiving a 30 point deduction in the summer.
Harford returned to Loftus Road as assistant boss again in December 2009,
this time to Paul Hart. However, Hart only lasted five games in charge before
departing, when Harford took charge of first team affairs.
Relieved of his duties in March 2010 when Neil Warnock took over at Rangers,
Mick worked as a scout for the England U21 side before returning to coaching
duties on the staff at MK Dons and later Millwall.
July 2013 then saw him linked with a return to SJP assisting newly-appointed
Director of F***all JFK (chief duties: designated driver and getting the
drinks).
However, Mick opted to remain at the New Den and became assistant manager, later moving to head scout before departing in the summer
of 2015.
By early 2016 he'd returned to Luton Town yet again as their head of
recruitment and once again stood in as caretaker boss at the mackems in
January 2019.
The re-appointment of Nathan Jones as Hatters manager in May 2020 resulted
in Harford continuing in his recruitment role and also acting as assistant manager.
2022 saw him reveal a prostate cancer diagnosis that he received in
2020 and required multiple bouts of radiotherapy.
He was briefly caretaker manager after Jones departed but resumed his role
as chief recruitment officer.
1981 Colin McMenamin born, Glasgow, Scotland. (2000-02)
Slightly built striker who grew up in Dumfries and was with
Queen of the South as a schoolboy before joining nearby Annan Athletic in
their pre-Scottish League days.
Moving to Tyneside along with team mate Ryan McGuffie after Magpies coach Mick
Wadsworth spotted them, Colin debuted for United reserves against
Manchester City at Kingston Park in January 2001.
Despite netting regularly McMenamin was released, joining Livingston on a free transfer ahead of the 2002/03 season
(an earlier deal taking him to Oldham Athletic was aborted when their manager
lost his job - a certain M.Wadsworth....)
However there were to be future reunions with Wadsworth, the striker signing
for him at Shrewsbury Town in 2005 and later with Gretna.
He'd also been on loan at Falkirk while at Livingston.
After spells at Dundee and Queen of the South, Colin joined Ross County
in 2011.
Signed for Morton in January 2013, he rejoined Mick Wadsworth at Northern League Celtic Nation the following season -
remaining with the Carlisle-based club after Wadsworth departed soon after.
However, a change of ownership and attendant financial issues saw a
drastic alteration in the Celtic Nation squad the following year - Colin one
of those leaving and turning up at Stenhousemuir.
Debuting for Stenny in July 2014, by 2019 he'd just about given up playing and
was manager at Ochilview - combining that with his day job as an electrician.
Stenhousemuir were relegated from League One and McMenamin dismissed in
September 2019, continuing his playing career with junior side Hurlford
United.
He was appointed Assistant Manager of Annan Athletic in June 2021, working
under Peter Murphy until 2024 when the pair took charge at Queen of the
South.

The first derby meeting in the FA Cup was also Newcastle's first

league games at Gallowgate.
Bad weather saw the tie delayed from the original Saturday to Wednesday
afternoon, but snow remained lying on the pitch.
"Newcastle tenaciously assailed the
visitors' quarters" in the words of one writer, but a replay seemed likely until Ronald Orr
fired home from close range "amid a scene of enthusiasm never

If any single result can encapsulate a football club, it was
this one.
Seven days after famously falling to non-league Hereford United,
Newcastle recorded a rare and deserved victory against Manchester United
at Old Trafford.
Tony Green and Stewart Barrowclough combined down the Magpies right for
John Tudor to net from close range and give Joe Harvey's side a half
time advantage.
And the win was sealed after the break, when Green's low centre was
planted past Alex Stepney by Barrowclough.
Some home fans reacted badly and a knife-throwing incident was to lead
to Old Trafford being partially closed for two weeks at the start of the
following season.
Future Magpie Alan Gowling appeared for the home side, who also included
their famed Law, Best and Charlton combo.
PS: A telegram arrived at Gallowgate post-match, reading "all here delighted with win at Manchester.
Sincerely hope Magpies will now fly high".
