Toon training kit
sponsor revealed
Newcastle confirm that
online payment provider SumUp has acquired front-of-shirt
sponsor rights for training kit worn by the club's mens, women's and
academy sides.
Officially a multi-year agreement of undisclosed value, the deal is
reportedly worth £15m over three years.
PS: It's also claimed that United have secured a deal for Coca-Cola
to take over sponsorship of The Stack outside SJP in succession to
SELA. Signage featuring shirt and training ground sponsor KNOX was
noted last weekend.
2026/27:
Liverpool (h)
The Magpies kick off their Premier League campaign on Sunday,
when Liverpool provide the opposition at SJP.
It's a 4.30pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.
A reminder that 2026/27 season ticket holders are able to
download digital now tickets via
their supporter accounts. Contact the box office if not - don't wait
until Sunday....
Wor Flags are preparing a pre-game display paying
tribute to the late Kevin Keegan, with every place in the ground
allocated a card to be held up - including the away end.
In addition to Matthias Jaissle's competitive debut as Newcastle
boss, the visitors will also have a new face in their dugout in the
shape of Andoni Iraola.
While in charge of Bournemouth, the Spaniard won three and drew the
other three PL meetings, his sole loss coming on penalties in last
season's FA Cup meeting at Gallowgate.
Since a 2-0 win under Steve McClaren in December 2015, Newcastle
have failed to defeat Liverpool at Gallowgate in nine attempts,
drawing three and losing the other six.
That remains our most recent PL victory; since then there have been
19 PL meetings home and away. Five ended in draws, with the men from
Anfield winning the other 14.
Last season's home opener went the way of the Reds, their 3-2
success achieved via a 100th minute goal. United's starting XI was:
Pope, Trippier, Livramento, Burn, Schar, Joelinton, Tonali,
Guimaraes, Elanga, Barnes, Gordon.
Hat sellers Football Bobbles will have a stall outside the Trent House pub from
1pm, with their brand-new Drill bucket
hat in stock. Card payments accepted.
Team: Joelinton and Tino Livramento aren't expected to be
involved (although the latter is back training) with Joe Willock's availability also in question.

LFC: Hugo Ekitike, Conor
Bradley, Jayden Danns, Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez are all
out injured. The availability of Federico Chiesa and Stefan Bajcetic is
as yet unclear, while Curtis Jones is nearing a move to
Inter Milan.
That Swedish bloke we sold last year missed both PL meetings with
Liverpool in the 2025/26 season - he was technically still a
Newcastle player for the first game.
Isak started in Liverpool's most recent three kickabouts ahead of
Sunday.
Referee: Stuart Attwell - the Warwickshire whistler took charge
of three Newcastle games in the Premier League last season; a 1-3
loss at Brentford, 2-1 home victory over Burnley and 2-3 defeat by
Everton on Tyneside.

Barring an unforeseen team selection, Sunday will see Newcastle
add to their tally of 276 players in PL games.
In terms of the number of PL debutants in one game, aside from
seasons following promotion, the most new faces we can find in a
starting line-up is 1997, when five debutants played against
Sheffield Wednesday at Gallowgate.
2014/15's season opener at home to Manchester City included six
debutants; four starting and two as subs.
If he features against Liverpool, Anthony Elanga will
reach 50 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.

Starter for Toon
For the first time since November 2021, Newcastle will have a
manager making their competitive bow on Sunday, as the Matthias
Jaissle era officially begins.
In terms of emulating his predecessors, three points against
Liverpool would exactly match Alan Pardew, who began his spell at
the club by defeating Roy Hodgson's Reds 3-1 on Tyneside during
December 2010.
Excluding cup ties, other PL first timers included Graeme Souness,
Glenn Roeder and Sam Allardyce. It proved to be second time lucky
for Kenny Dalglish, Ruud Gullit and Sir Bobby Robson, with Steve
Bruce managing it in three.
Eddie Howe and John Carver both secured maximum points at the fourth
time of asking meanwhile, one game less than Joe effing Kinnear and
Rafa Benitez.
Alan Shearer's first (and only)
success arrived in his sixth game in charge, but the longest wait
for a PL success is nine games, endured by Kevin Keegan on
his 2008 return and then replicated by Steve McClaren in 2015*.
* KK's winless run in all competitions was 10, while McClaren got
off the mark with a League Cup win in his fourth game.
Field of dreams:
Club confirm training ground
development
From NUFC Thursday:
Newcastle United have completed an agreement to purchase the
Woolsington Hall estate as the site for a new world-class
training complex.
The agreement follows a
meticulous process to identify and secure a viable site, which is
situated within the Newcastle city boundary and provides outstanding
links to Newcastle International Airport and existing public
transport network.
The club will acquire 260 acres
of land to the south of the airport, which includes a derelict
listed country house and parkland.
Subject to planning permission,
the site will be carefully restored alongside the introduction of
new elite performance facilities for the men's first team and
Academy in a scheme totalling £190m.
A formal planning application is
expected to be submitted in early 2027 with a view to the men's
first team moving in for the 2029/30 season.
The master plan for Woolsington
Hall will also retain the flexibility to integrate bespoke women's
and girls' facilities.
This phased approach ensures
investment is both immediate and sustainable.
The club is committed to
delivering the project sustainably and responsibly, and will work
closely with the local community and local authorities as plans
develop.
The project represents a significant long-term investment into the
club's future by its owners PIF and RB Sports & Media.
Woolsington
Hall was previously purchased in 1994 by Newcastle United's former
owner and chairman, Sir John Hall, who had a vision for the estate
to become a club academy facility.
That vision has been
revolutionised under Newcastle United's current owners, with an
elite, integrated
performance environment to be created to deliver sustainable
on-pitch success.
Brad Miller, Newcastle United's
Chief Operating Officer, said: "This is a homecoming for Newcastle
United given Sir John Hall's initial vision for the site in the
1990s.
"Woolsington Hall will be a
magnificent location for our new training complex, so we are
delighted to have finalised our agreement to acquire the land.
"We are finalising hugely
exciting plans for the estate, which include renovating and
enhancing listed structures and parkland and retaining them as key
elements in our designs.
"Our aim is to carefully and
thoughtfully develop world-class facilities for our players and
staff, while bringing out the beauty of the location and preserving
it for generations to come.
"It is a highly complex project.
We have a rigorous planning process ahead of us, but we will
demonstrate how we intend to build something iconic that the club,
fans, community and region can be proud of.
"We look forward to engaging
with planners, our supporters and interested parties about our
exciting plans. Our aim is to sustainably and responsibly move the
project forward, delivering a facility that the city and region can
be immensely proud of."
David Hopkinson, Newcastle United's CEO, said: "This is a landmark
moment for Newcastle United.
"Subject to planning permission,
our proposed performance complex will create the world's best
performance environment for our teams. We'll develop purpose-built
facilities that are geared towards developing sustainable success in
the future, where players, coaches and staff can perform at their
very best every day.
"We will be submitting a
detailed planning application that not only demonstrates our vision,
but also how we will preserve and enhance an historic estate, its
biodiversity and wildlife habitats, and how we'll be a great
neighbour.
"I want to thank everyone who
has played a role in getting us to this point today, and extend my
gratitude to Sir John and the Hall family."
The club is progressing the necessary steps to formally complete the
purchase of the site. Separately, the club is about to commence
pre-application engagement with the local authority, local residents
and community.
A detailed planning application
is then expected to be finalised and submitted to Newcastle City
Council in early 2027.
Future plans for the club's
relevant current sites will also be communicated at the appropriate
time.

Following a 3-5 loss at Tamworth in the National League Cup,
Newcastle's U21 side begin their PL2 season this coming Monday
when they face Spurs at Whitley Park.
That's a 7pm kick-off at Whitley Park and amended entry
arrangements now apply
here. These including an option to pre-book online for the
first time and U21 season tickets.
ST holders still gain entrance free of charge by showing their
ticket at the gate. There is an option for ST holders to book free
tickets online, but no necessity to do so.
The only reason appears to be securing entry in the event of a
sell-out. Given that the notional capacity is 1,000 and the highest
crowd last season was 448, that's a tad optimistic.
Adult admission increases from £3 to £5 and the previous concession
rate of £1 for juniors and seniors is scrapped. Juniors now pay £2
and seniors are charged adult prices.
That's the first of successive PL2 home fixtures at Whitley Park,
Fulham providing the opposition there in another 7pm start on
Monday week, August 31st.
2026/27:
West Brom (h)
Newcastle will begin their Carabao Cup campaign with a Second Round
home tie against Championship side West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.
It's a 7.45pm kick-off and will be played
to a finish on the night, with a penalty shootout if it's a draw on
90 minutes.
This and the rest of the ties will be live on Sky Sports.
WBA were allocated 3,214 places.
The winners progress to the Third Round (draw date tbc), which
unlike the Second Round isn't regionalised.
Those ties take place over two
weeks, commencing Monday September 7th and also Monday September
14th.
That split is to accommodate PL teams who are also in European
action. The first week clashes with Champions League ties, the
second clashes with Europa League ties.

Albion host Burnley in the Championship action on the Sunday before travelling to Boro
on the Saturday after.
Managed by Darlington-born James Morrison, the Baggies won 4-1 at
Rotherham United in the First Round.
This is the third time the two sides have met in the League Cup: Albion winning 1-0 on Tyneside back in October 1989
and returning to Gallowgate during October 2003 to register a 2-1
success - Lee Hughes scoring an extra-time winner three minutes
after Alan Shearer came off the bench.
Their last visit to SJP ended in a 2-1 Premier League home win behind closed doors in December 2020. Joelinton
and Jacob Murphy remain from the 14 players used by United that day.
Referee:
Bobby Madley - a first game involving Newcastle for the
Wakefield-born official since a 0-1 Premier League defeat by Everton
at Goodison Park in April 2018.
That proved to be his final PL game before resigning the
following August and relocating to Norway. He made a refereeing
return in the EFL 18 months later and that's where he's been ever
since, aside from two random PL appointments - neither involving the
Magpies.
The elder of the two Madley brothers has only refereed
one game previously at Gallowgate, Southampton leaving with three
points after a 2-1 win in January 2015.

Update:
Jaissle quotes
Speaking to Sky
Sports at the KNOX on Wednesday, Newcastle boss Matthias
Jaissle had this to say:
On how many players he needs to sign:
"I would love to answer that with a clear number, but it depends on
if players are leaving as well.
"For sure, there will be
adjustments made, the needs are clear. The management knows about
the needs and we are all aligned.
"We will use the remaining time
(until the transfer window closes on September 1st) in the
best possible way, but we also trust the players who are already
here.
On the magnitude of the task that he accepted:
"I tried to not over think
beforehand. I was aware of the challenge... and among such a journey
there will always be stones among the path, but we need to get rid
of them.
"We need to see the opportunities, the chance in all these things.
This is something we mentioned already, and I feel that the players
are committed towards these challenges in the transition period
right now.
"I'm really optimistic for the future."
On bedding in his new players:
"You know that usually you need to have the adaptation time,
therefore I said that you need to be patient with them and give them
the time. It's always a process.
"We should not give them too
much pressure in the beginning. It's a goal of the club to work with
young talent, to develop them and that is nice to see because that's
a clear identity of the club.
"That's also the reason why I'm
here, because I'm used to working with young talents in my time in
Salzburg and I also used to work with stars in Saudi Arabia, so it's
a great fit, and you can build on something."
"You are aware, like I am, that we need to fix things in a short
amount of time. The timing was not ideal, but in football you cannot
always have the perfect timing, so we need to do the best out of it.
"In a short amount of time, we
need to be efficient, we need to implement the philosophy as much as
possible, how the lads should enter the pitch and deliver the
messages.
"They are doing an amazing job
so far. They are really committed, they learn fast, but it will be a
process.
"We are for sure not 100%
against Liverpool, but with the fans in the back, with the support
from the stands, we can do special things here at St James' Park. I
could feel that already in the friendly matches."
On Sunday's season opener:
"With the tributes, it's already a special game. It will be an
outstanding atmosphere. I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about
it so I can't wait.

Amar, he's making
ayes at me....

Newcastle confirmed their
sixth senior close season signing on Tuesday, paying a claimed £30m for Benfica full back Amar Dedic,
who becomes a Magpie on his 24th birthday.
The Austrian-born Bosnia & Herzegovina international flew from
Lisbon to Tyneside on Sunday before undergoing his medical on Monday.
This will be the third time that Dedic has played under Matthias Jaissle, after previous link-ups at
Austrian sides Liefering and RB Salzburg.
He's taken squad number 37, most recently worn by Alex Murphy and
once infamously handed to Rob Lee - which provided the title of his
autobiography.
He'll become the first Bosnian international to represent the
Magpies and the second Austrian-born player to play for the club in
the Premier League after Valentino Lazaro.
The most recent of Dedic's 31 caps came at this summer's World Cup
Finals, starting against Canada, Switzerland and the USA on the
right hand side of a back four or five.
He also began in last season's Champions League meeting with Benfica
at Gallowgate in the right back role.
Amar has made three competitive appearances so far this season for
Benfica and is in line to make his United debut against Liverpool in
the Premier League on Sunday.
PS: unveiling a new signing on his birthday isn't a common
occurrence, but did happen back in August 1994 when Philippe Albert
was paraded, cake and all, at SJP.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply for away tickets, 24 hours to determine success, then 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division usually get two hours head start.
NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log
on and complete your purchase.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants are then offered to unsuccessful applicants with a
reduced loyalty points total - new applications cannot be made at this time.
Only those within the new loyalty point total are
eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already
closed.
PL away ticket prices are unchanged at £30 for the 2026/27
and 2027/28 seasons.

On This Day in History |
|
21st August |
|
Born Or Died:
1908 Johnny Dryden born, Broomhill.
(1932-34)

Outside left signed by Newcastle for £175 from Ashington in September 1932,
debuting in a 0-3 home FA Cup loss to Leeds United the following January.
With first team opportunities limited due to the form of Tommy Pearson, May
1934 saw Dryden move on to Exeter City.
Later transfers then saw him appear in the colours of Sheffield United, Bristol
City, Burnley and Peterborough United.
Living back in his native Northumberland, Jack passed away in September 1975.

1940 Jimmy Scott born, Falkirk, Scotland.
(1967-70)

Right winger whose part in Magpies history is assured, for his
exploits in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup campaign of 1968/69.
Joining Falkirk from Denny Rovers, Jim never made a senior appearance for his
hometown side before moving on to Bo'ness United and then Hibernian.
In almost a decade at Easter Road, Scott appeared in the Fairs Cup and was
called up once for Scotland, against Holland in 1966.
Joe Harvey paid £37,500 to bring Jim to SJP in 1967 and 48 hours after turning
27, he celebrated by scoring on his debut against Southampton at St.James'
Park.
A year later, Scott netted United's first goal in Europe, against Feyenoord and
followed it up with three more strikes in that campaign - one in Lisbon, one at
home to Rangers in the riot game and one in the final first leg against the
Hungarians of Ujpest Dozsa.
Jim also found the net the following season against Porto, before moving on to
Crystal Palace in February 1970.
Two years later he returned to Scotland with Falkirk, retiring in February
1974, by which time he'd joined Hamilton Accies.
In later years Jim worked at Aitkens bar in his hometown and greeted many Toon
fans who made pilgrimages to meet him and view his Fairs Cup winning shirt on
the pub wall.
2009 saw Jim back at SJP with his former United colleagues for the 40th
anniversary celebrations of their European success.

1959 Keith Mulgrove born, Haltwhistle. (1977-78)

Full back who came through the junior ranks at Gallowgate but
had to trek to Brighton's Goldstone Ground to make his lone senior appearance,
replacing Colin Suggett during a 0-2 defeat in December 1978.
Moving on to play for Barrow, Keith later became a postman in the Tyne Valley.
1962 Nigel Pearson born, Nottingham.
(2006-08 Coach, Caretaker Mgr)
As a player, Nigel was a no-nonsense centre half
for Heanor Town, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough before
becoming Carlisle boss in 1998.
Coaching at both Stoke City and West Brom, Pearson was appointed as Glenn
Roeder's number two in October 2006, following the dismissal of former
assistant Kevin Bond.
Taking caretaker charge of the last game of that season at Watford following
Roeder's exit, Pearson remained at SJP under Sam Allardyce - once again taking
caretaker charge when another vacancy appeared.
Two games under his charge saw Newcastle beaten 6-0 at Old Trafford before a
4-1 home win over Stoke in the FA Cup on the night Kevin Keegan returned to the
club.
Pearson duly departed from SJP within a few weeks and after a brief spell in
charge at Southampton, was appointed Leicester City boss in June 2008.
Under his guidance, the Foxes secured promotion from League One and Pearson found himself up against Newcastle in the Championship, before
making a switch to newly-relegated Hull City in summer 2010.
Despite a reasonable record at the KC Stadium though, he resigned for
"personal reasons" in November 2011. A return to Leicester
quickly followed - after Milan Mandaric sold the Foxes to new
owners.
The Championship title was clinched with little issue in 2014, Pearson given a new
deal upon returning to the Premier League.
The Foxes seemed destined for a swift return to the Championship but Pearson
guided them to safety with seven wins out of the last nine games of the 2014/15 campaign.
Media claims of his sacking in February 2015 were premature, but
following some tetchy exchanges with pressmen Nigel exited in late June - the
emergence of a sex tape featuring his son (a City player) filmed on City's tour of Thailand seemingly the final straw.
Linked various vacancies, May 2016 found
Nigel interviewed by newly-relegated Aston Villa over their position, only to appear as Derby County's new
manager soon after.
However, that proved to be fairly disastrous and following behind the scenes disputes with the
Rams he left within six months.
One of the favourites to be appointed as smoggies boss in
Summer 2017, Nigel lost out to Garry Monk. Installed as boss of Belgian
side OH Leuven that September, he was dismissed during February 2019.
He worked as a media pundit and then took charge of Watford in December of that
year and steered them clear of relegation from the Premier League.
Looking set to repeat that feat in the following COVID-disrupted season,
Pearson was sacked with just three games to play and the Hornets were duly
demoted.
In February 2021 he became manager of Bristol City until the end
of the season and subsequently signed a three year deal but after a poor run
of results he left in October 2023.
Pearson suffered a "neurological situation" towards the end of his tenure at
Ashton Gate and had to learn to walk again.
1992 Haris Vuckic born, Ljubljana, Slovenia (2009-17)
16 year-old forward signed from Slovenian side NK Domzale
for an undisclosed fee in 2009, debuting within hours for the U18s in an FA Youth Cup loss at Manchester
City.
Two weeks on and Haris was back in the North West with Newcastle, scoring the
winner against Blackburn Rovers reserves within three minutes of arriving as a
sub.
Netting four times for the reserves in pre-season, Haris was
promoted to the first team for the League Cup visit of Huddersfield Town that August and made two further appearances in the Championship.
Two months later however, he sustained an ankle injury while on international
duty and was sidelined until April 2010.
Featuring in first team friendlies ahead of the 2010/11 season, Vuckic played in three
League Cup ties before further ankle trouble led to a further six months out.
Signing a new five and a half year deal in early 2011, Alan Pardew then included him in
a senior pre-season tour of the USA.
Netting against Columbus Crew and at Leeds, Haris made five
further first team appearances for United but was again
sidelined after dislocating a finger against Fulham at SJP a month later.
Joining Championship side Cardiff City on loan in February 2012, Vuckic played
five times for the Bluebirds and scored once before injury saw him return to
Tyneside.
Preparations for the 2012/13 season then saw Haris feature in all eight of
Newcastle's pre-season friendlies, scoring in a penalty shootout against
Olympiakos in Portugal and at Hartlepool.
Coming off the bench to score
his first senior goal at home to Atromitos in the Europa League, a knee
injury in a reserve game at Aston Villa in October 2012 again
ended his season prematurely.
Back to fitness ahead of the 2013/14 campaign, Vuckic marked his return by
scoring after just eight minutes of his comeback in a friendly at Motherwell.
Training with Bradford
City ahead of a loan, instead he switched to
League One side Rotherham United with James Tavernier.
Haris frustratingly spent much of his time on the bench but did feature in a
Wembley playoff final success over Leyton Orient.
Inheriting Shola Ameobi's 23 squad number in July 2014 Haris
played in six of United's eight friendlies but remained on the
fringes of the squad with an uncertain future.
A first Premier League outing since 2011 came in the final minutes of a 1-3
loss at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, before a start in a 0-1 FA
Cup loss at Leicester City
One of five Magpies loaned to Rangers in
February 2015, he scored nine times but failed to
help them win promotion to the SPL.
Next came a season-long loan to Wigan Athletic where he won a League One Championship medal
but was never a regular starter and netted just twice.
Back at SJP for 2016/17 - the final season of his contract - Haris
was loaned to Bradford City before a trial at Dutch side FC Twente.
Signing a three year contract with them once a free
agent, he reached double figures for the first time in a league season when
scoring 11 times in 2019/20.
Later moves took Haris to Real Zaragoza (Spain), HNK Rijeka (Croatia) and Buriram United
(Thailand) before a return to NK Domzale in 2024.
He played briefly for UAE Division 1 side Al-Hamriyah in 2025/26, scoring
five times in four games.
A Slovenian U17 international when moving to United, selections
at U19 and U21 level soon came, before a first full cap against
Scotland in February 2012.

What Else?
1909 Albert Shepherd gave United's first
team a half-time lead in a practice match at Gallowgate, Jimmy Stewart
levelling for the shadow XI after the break.
1920 Another practice match between two

20,000 fans saw goals from Ted Ward and Andrew Smailes, Curtis Booth netting a

Joe Harvey's latest purchase on his home debut.
Tommy Gibb didn't let them down with a 25 yard drive
which began a fight back from a 2-0 deficit, caused by

Harvey later said, "That was the lifeblood of

disallowed and Tommy Smith a penalty saved by Iam
McFaul that would have given the visitors a half-time
lead.
But United went up the other end and Macdonald got his
second. The hat-trick was complete after the break and
Supermac left the field concussed after colliding with
Ray Clemence, almost grabbing a late fourth.

pulling down Gowling in the area.
Tommy Craig converted and the Rams lost the plot, George
dismissed for lashing out at John Bird and Archie
Gemmill earning a booking for kicking Irving Nattrass.
Loutish Leighton James was also lucky to stay on the
field and was lectured by a Police Sergeant in the

Newcastle began the
season on an incident-packed Sunday afternoon at
Filbert Street, live on Sky Sports.
There were debuts for Philippe Albert and Marc Hottiger
as the visiting defence just about contained the
livewire Julian Joachim in the opening half.
Peter Beardsley then set up Andy Cole to shoot United
ahead before adding a second himself. Pedro wouldn't
finish the game though, led
from the field after smashing his cheekbone again late
on.
3-0 up, Pavel Srnicek saved Mark Draper's penalty on

outside the box.
On came the lumbering Mike Hooper, who almost
immediately conceded. He had been introduced at the
expense of Alex Mathie, who had replaced Beardsley
just three minutes earlier.

Following an opening day defeat at Everton the
previous Saturday, an expectant crowd were at SJP the
following Wednesday night for Alan Shearer's home
debut.
The opening goal came from a most unexpected source;
David Batty spotting Wombles 'keeper Neil Sullivan off
his line and beating him with a wonderful lofted
effort at the Gallowgate End.
A trademark free kick from Shearer then gave him his first competitive goal for
Newcastle late in the second half.

An incredible night on Tyneside ended with United
bowing out of the Intertoto Cup.
Nobby Solano
scored early on but two goals in three first half
minutes for the French side left us in trouble.
It
seemed all over at 1-4 with less than half an hour to
go but Shola Ameobi reduced the arrears and then won a
penalty which Gary Speed just about converted.
Robbie
Elliott's last minute header then put United on the
brink, but an injury-time winner never arrived and Troyes held on to claim a UEFA Cup spot.

Newcastle's unbeaten home
record in 2004 was ended by a side who had been humped 4-0 at SJP
the previous December.
Kieron Dyer's substitute appearance was greeted
with sporadic boos, but most fans were more worried
about the plight of the team than Dyer, as United toiled
to equalise Timothée Atouba's solo strike.

The Belgravia Group confirmed that it
was looking at acquiring Newcastle
United Plc, following press speculation that the

making a bid.
2009 The

A
revised deadline of Monday 24th August was then
supposed to see United make a formal utterance, but
no more was heard.

Newcastle remained pointless after two games following a
loss that was equally disappointing and
infuriating.
Failing to turn
their early
dominance into
goals, a five
man defence then proved unable to contain the Villans
- who were greatly aided by the officials.
Jamaal Lascelles had a penalty awarded against him
for handball that no Villa player
appealed for and Callum Wilson was denied a second
half spot kick after VAR deemed that he was
fractionally offside.

An incredible game at SJP saw United
go a goal down, lead 3-1 then hanging on for a point after a dismissal
was rescinded.
Two crucial onfield decisions that went against were overturned by VAR: Miggy Almiron's equaliser
standing after wrongly flagged as offside and Kieran Trippier's red card amended to yellow after referee Jarred Gillett
was invited to review the pitchside monitor.
Our verdict: "His team may not have won, but the
30th league game of Eddie Howe's reign was the most
enjoyable to date: a genuine source of both
celebration and optimism."
