Baz is a Mag - official

Newcastle announced the signing of left winger Bazoumana Toure
from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on Sunday. A fee of around £43m is
reported, although officially undisclosed.
The 20 year-old Ivory Coast international flew to Tyneside with his
representatives on Thursday, with social media images
then circulating on Friday of him inside SJP.
Toure's participation at the World Cup Finals ended with Ivory
Coast's defeat by Norway on Tuesday, having made three appearances
(one start and two from the bench).
He moved from
Swedes Hammarby to Hoffenheim in January 2025 transfer
window, netting five times last season.
Toure becomes the third Ivorian
to represent United after Cheick Tiote and the rather
less-celebrated loan flop, Seydou Doumbia.
The Magpies previously did business with Hoffenheim in 2019,
purchasing Joelinton for a claimed £40m fee.
Toure is reportedly represented by Unique Sports Group, whose
other clients include Anthony Gordon, Jacob Ramsey, Malick Thiaw and
Lewis Miley.
PS: The Magpies are also said to be continuing their pursuit of
right-sided midfielder Johan Manzambi. The 20 year-old plays in
Germany for Freiburg and is currently at the World Cup Finals with
Switzerland.

Germans return
Newcastle confirm that their pre-season programme will conclude with
home friendlies over successive days - although only one opponent
has been announced so far.
United will host Bundesliga outfit Bayer 04 Leverkusen at
Gallowgate in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday August 15th, with a 4pm
kick-off against a team tbc the following day.
Billed as the
VisitMalta Weekender 2026,
Sunday's men's game will be preceded by an NUWFC kickabout against
undisclosed opposition starting at 1pm.
Ticket prices and sale details are still to be confirmed.
Leverkusen will arrive on Tyneside following a midweek visit to
Nottingham Forest, having finished sixth last season to earn a place
in the Europa League.
Their only previous appearance at SJP was for a 1-3 Champions League
loss back in February 2003.
Former Toulouse coach Carles Martinez Novell has taken over from
Kasper Hjulmand since Newcastle's 2-2 draw at the BayArena in the
Champions League last December.
This is the fifth successive season that Eddie Howe's side have
rounded off their preparations with a home double header. At least
one Spanish club has visited each year, but that's not possible in
2026 as La Liga begins that weekend.
2022/23 Atalanta (Italy) won 1-0
2022/23 Athletic Bilbao (Spain) won 2-1
2023/24 Fiorentina (Italy) won 2-0
2023/24 Villarreal (Spain) won 4-0
2024/25 Girona (Spain) won 4-0
2024/25 Brest (France) won 1-0
2025/26 Espanyol (Spain) drew 2-2
2025/26 Atletico Madrid (Spain) lost 0-2
Claims that AS Roma were lined up as opposition proved to be false,
with the Serie A side playing a friendly against Borussia Dortmund
in Germany that weekend.
Outgoing:
Sandro away
Latest: Tonali was spotted flying from Milan to London on Thursday
to complete the formalities of his medical.
Earlier: Newcastle's second
high-profile player departure of the summer was sealed on Wednesday, after a deal taking Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur
was finalised.
A fee of £92.5m was agreed plus £7.5m in add-ons, with the 26
year-old Italian international midfielder collecting a weekly wage
of £275K - more than double his current earnings and enough to
offset the stigma of joining a side who have finished seventeenth in
each of the last two seasons...
The first player to swap the Magpies for Cockerels since Moussa
Sissoko almost a decade ago, Tonali is set to make his PL home debut
for Spurs against United in late August.
Although there was some noise about rumoured interest from
Manchester City, that failed to translate into an actual bid,
leaving Spurs as the only serious suitors for Tonali.
On that basis the Magpies look to have done good business for a
player who, like Anthony Gordon, clearly saw his future away from
Tyneside and whose variable displays contributed to our own mediocre
domestic campaign. Avoiding another damaging Alexander Isak-style
saga is also refreshing.
Inbound recruitment though is where the real interest lies - which
will help to answer the imponderable question of whether there's
enough of a "project" to prevent Bruno Guimaraes from joining what
would become an exodus.
Rightly described as talismanic by one writer in recent days, the
monetary value of the 28 year-old currently producing on a global
stage at the World Cup for Brazil may be at his maximum, but his
exit really would trigger alarm bells.

Update:
GK off again
Wednesday saw Newcastle confirm a further loan exit for goalkeeper
Odysseas Vlachodimos, who returns to Spanish side Seville for
a second successive season.
The 32 year-old Greek international started 33 games last season
in La Liga, helping to secure Seville's top-flight status in the
closing weeks of last season.
It's exactly two years since Vlachodimos arrived at SJP from
Nottingham Forest on a permanent contract of undisclosed duration,
as Elliot Anderson moved to the City Ground.
His sole competitive appearance as a Magpie remains a 45 minute
outing during a Carabao Cup home tie against AFC Wimbledon in
October 2024.
There are media claims that this second loan agreement for
Vlachodimos includes provision for a permanent switch, if certain
conditions are met. Neither club refer to this however, in their
confirmation of the switch.
2026/27:
Moors v Mags
National League North side Spennymoor Town confirm that they
will host Newcastle U21s in pre-season, the Magpies visiting Brewery
Field on Thursday July 30th at 7pm.
The game comes ahead of United U21s staging a training camp at
the Pinatar Arena in Spain, after which Robbie Stockdale's side
visit St. Mirren for a behind closed doors fixture on
Wednesday August 12th at 12.30pm.
Update:
Livramento latest
From NUFC, Tuesday:
Newcastle United can confirm that Tino Livramento has
successfully undergone a minor surgical procedure.
The defender, who returned from World Cup duty with an injury,
is expected to return during pre-season.
The 23 year-old reportedly suffered a calf injury while training
with England in the USA, having sat out United's closing five
Premier League games with a thigh issue.
Update:
NUFC reveal UEFA fine
From NUFC, Tuesday:
Newcastle United has
entered into a settlement agreement with UEFA following a breach of
its Financial Sustainability Regulations in the three-year period
ending June 2025.
Following an overspend in
relation to UEFA's Football Earnings threshold, the club has worked
closely and constructively with the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB)
to swiftly resolve the matter.
Accordingly, the club has
accepted the three-year settlement, which includes a €3m financial
penalty, with a further €7m suspended pending future compliance.
In addition, UEFA has determined
that the club will pay a further €3m due to breaching UEFA's 70%
Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) target in calendar year 2025.
Newcastle United thanks UEFA for
its careful consideration and is committed to full ongoing
compliance.
Aston Villa, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest were also censured, with all
four clubs required to operate within the UEFA financial thresholds
next season, even though Villa are the only one of them actually
playing in European competition.
EFL Trophy:
Bantams, Millers
and Minstermen
The draw for the Group Stage of the EFL Trophy
placed
Newcastle's U21 side in Northern Group Section C,
handing them visits to League One Bradford City and League Two
duo Rotherham United and York City.
Round dates are as follows - match order is awaited:

Update:
Shirt sponsor unveiled
As previously reported, Newcastle have confirmed that their new main shirt
sponsor is South African soft drink company Knox
Hydrate, whose deal for naming rights to the club's Darsley Park
training ground began on July 1st 2026.
The agreement duration is for three years but no details of the
value were announced in United's press release.
It has been claimed that it will net
up to £60m, with the 2026/27 season set at a maximum of
£10m and the ceiling for the following two campaigns increasing to
£25m.
The KNOX branding of United's Darsley Park training ground
remains a separate three year deal that will boost the
club's coffers by £6m annually.
In terms of replica shirts which were launched without any sponsor logo, the club confirm that:
Supporters who have purchased the 2026/27 home shirt will be
given an opportunity to get the Knox Hydrate logo applied.
Home shirts with the Knox logo will also be retailed later in the
season, whist upcoming away and third shirts will include the Knox
logo.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply for away tickets, 24 hours to determine success, then 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division usually get two hours head start.
NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log
on and complete your purchase.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants are then offered to unsuccessful applicants with a
reduced loyalty points total - new applications cannot be made at this time.
Only those within the new loyalty point total are
eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already
closed.
PL away ticket prices are unchanged at 30 for both the 2026/27
and 2027/28 seasons.

Born Or Died:
1898
James Alton Hunter born, Balfron, Scotland. (1919 & 1924-25)

Left back who was on the club's
books in 1919 but failed to make a first team appearance and moved on to
Motherwell.
Returning to SJP from Falkirk in January 1924, Hunter served as cover for first
-choice Frank Hudspeth and debuted in a 2-2 home draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The last of his dozen games for United was at Bolton Wanderers in
December 1924 and he later emigrated to the USA, extending his career with New
Bedford Whalers.

1946 Arthur Horsfield
born, Newcastle. (1969)

Spotted playing youth football in
his native Newcastle by Middlesbrough, England youth international centre
forward Arthur spent six years at Ayresome Park from 1963, helping them return
to Division One.
Signed as striking cover by Joe Harvey for £17,000 in January 1969, he made an
instant impact with a goal within three minutes of his debut, at Manchester
City.
Heavy rain at Maine Road however saw that game abandoned before half time,
meaning that the goal and Arthur's debut were then expunged from official
records.
He did find the net against Burnley at home and was rewarded with a starting
place in the Fairs Cup home win over Setubal.
Goals at Spurs and at home to Sheffield Wednesday followed, but by the time
United claimed silverware in Budapest Arthur was a Swindon Town player after
the Wiltshire side celebrated promotion to Division Two by breaking their
transfer record - allowing United to recoup their outlay.
"King Arthur" twice won the Anglo Italian Cup with Swindon, before
moving on to Charlton Athletic in 1972. A stint at Watford was then followed by
a loan to non-leaguers Dartford. Settling in nearby Gravesend, Arthur then
worked for the Royal Mail.

1969 Michael O'Neill
born, Portadown, Northern Ireland. (1987-89)

Striker who netted thirteen times
in his first season after arriving from Northern Irish side Coleraine, and was
seemly destined for a big future at United under the guidance of his fellow
countryman Willie McFaul.
The highlight of Michael's debut
season was a memorable hat-trick in the 4-0 stuffing of Luton Town @ SJP, that
featured Kenny Wharton's celebrated sit-on-the-ball pose.
And the first of 31 full international caps (4 goals) followed in February 1988
against Greece, but injury and illness were to badly affect his career at SJP.
After a difficult second season, O'Neill moved to Dundee United as Jim Smith
overhauled his squad following relegation.
His next appearance at SJP saw him playing as a trialist for the smoggies
in a 1992 pre- season game, although he looked a shadow of his former self and
failed to win a deal.
Later transfers took Michael to Hibernian, Coventry City, Aberdeen, Reading,
Wigan, St.Johnstone, Portland Timbers (USA), Clydebank, Boston Bulldogs (USA),
Glentoran and Ayr United on a part-time basis, also working as a
financial adviser.
A first step into management saw him coach at Cowdenbeath, before
taking over as the new Brechin City boss in 2006.
Two years later O'Neill took over at League of Ireland side Shamrock
Rovers and came up against the Magpies in a pre- season game at Tallaght
Stadium in 2009.
In December 2011 he became manager of Northern Ireland, overcoming
a difficult start of just one victory in eighteen games to qualify for Euro
2016.
Signing an extended deal before the finals, Michael's stock
rose still further when his side reached the last 16, before
losing to Wales.
Recognition of that achievement came with the award of an MBE in the Honours
List, presented to him by the Queen at Buckingham Palace in February 2017.
Heavily linked with the Scotland job in 2018, Michael reportedly turned it
down in favour of staying with Northern Ireland.
Tempted back into club management in November 2019 by Championship basement
side Stoke City, he steered them out of the relegation zone before 15th
and 14th place finishes. Sacked by the Potters in August 2022,
O'Neill began a second spell as Northern Ireland boss that December, combining
it with managing Blackburn Rovers in the closing months of the 2025/26
season.
That kept Rovers out of the Championship relegation zone but he then stood
down to concentrate on his international role.

1980 David
Rozehnal born, Sternbeck, Czech Republic. (2007-08)

The first arrival as manager Sam
Allardyce set about reshaping Newcastle's defence, Czech international centre-half
Rozenhal was signed from Paris St.Germain at an eventual cost of £2.9m in June
2007.
Debuting alongside Steven Taylor in an opening day victory at Bolton, he made
just 25 appearances (including seven as sub), before departing from SJP early
in 2008.
Played in holding midfield and full back roles by both Allardyce and his
successor Kevin Keegan, Rozehnal sought an exit and joined Italian side Lazio
on loan.
At the heart of his dissatisfaction with life on Tyneside was concern that not
playing in central defence would affect his chances of selection for the Euro
2008 tournament.
Initially doing well in Rome, David held on to his international place and
started all three Czech games in the tournament - although they exited in
the first stage.
Having made his Lazio move permanent that summer - with United recouping their
fee - things began to unravel in Italy as David lost his first team place.
Linked with various clubs in summer 2009, Rozehnal joined German outfit SV
Hamburg and helped them to a seventh place finish in his maiden Bundesliga
campaign.
Loaned to Lille for the 2010/11 season, he played with future Toon duo
Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye as they completed a French league and cup
double.
Agreeing a permanent transfer, Rozehnal remained at Lille until in 2015, moving on to Belgian side KV Oostende.
He retired from professional football in April 2018 but continued to turn out for
Czech Republic amateur club Sokol Kožušany.

1983 Jonas
Gutierrez born, Buenos Aires,
Argentina. (2008-15)
A player who promised much when
making his competitive debut at Old Trafford on the first weekend of the
2008/09 season, having made a switch from Real Mallorca.
However, that early form and strong, direct running in possession became less
and less effective following an injury layoff after just four outings, all
under Kevin Keegan.
33 appearances in all competitions (25 starts) in what became a relegation
season failed to produce a single goal for the player who was nicknamed
"Spiderman" for his masked scoring celebration in Spain - although he
did find the net for Argentina.
And although remaining
popular among some supporters, a lack of goal assists over the campaign led to
accusations of the "nice hair, but flatters to deceive" variety.
There was a sting in the tail for United, who initially let it be known that
they had signed Jonas on a free - only for a Spanish court judge to
subsequently rule that a fee of £5m was payable - half to Real Mallorca, half
to former club, Velez Sarsfield.
Expected to leave SJP and linked with top -flight clubs in England, Portugal,
Italy and Greece, Jonas elected instead to stay - a decision aided by national
team coach Diego Maradona confirming that playing in the Championship was no
barrier to selection.
Netting in pre-season at Darlington, he was
one of the successes of
a
side that brought the
Championship trophy to Tyneside.
Forming a productive partnership down the left with Jose Enrique, Gutierrez
scored the first of his four league goals with a run and deflected shot against
Peterborough United at SJP in November 2009.
And although the Spiderman mask didn't appear that day, it was in full view the
following March after a fine solo effort against Barnsley at the Leazes End.
Playing for Argentina in their
World Cup warm-ups, Jonas appeared at right back for their opening two games in
South Africa - against Nigeria and South Korea.
Two bookings then saw him sit out the third group game, returning as a
substitute in a more orthodox left wing role in the Second Round victory over
Mexico. However Jonas stayed on the bench as Argentina exited in the
Quarter Finals to Germany.
Missing just a handful of games in the next three seasons, Jonas had signed a
new four year deal in 2011 but apparently fell from favour early in the 2013/14
campaign.
It later transpired that he'd been diagnosed with testicular cancer and have
surgery in his native Argentina shortly after appearing against Cardiff City in
October 2013.
However, than information wasn't made public for almost a year and Gutierrez
resurfaced when loaned out to Premier League rivals Norwich City in January
2014.
Linking back up with ex-boss Chris Hughton at Carrow Road, he made just two
starts and two substitute appearances before Hughton was sacked and City went
down.
Absent for pre-season on Tyneside, Jonas appeared on TV in Argentina in
September to confirm his illness - and reveal the loss of his trademark long
hair due to chemotherapy.
Receiving great support from players and fans alike, the team wore shirts in
support of him for their next game against Hull, Papiss Cisse revealing a
T-shirt with the message "always looking forward Jonas" after
scoring.
Returning to training, Jonas made a playing comeback in an U21 game against
West Ham just before Christmas and returned to the senior squad following the
exit of Alan Pardew and installation of John Carver.
Named on the bench for the home win over Aston Villa in February 2015,
Gutierrez made his first appearance against Manchester United at SJP just days
later.
Coming off the bench he was given the captain's armband by fellow countryman
Fabricio Coloccini amid massive applause, later commenting that "It was
a great moment for me - I will remember for the rest of my life the
reception".
Nine more games followed, culminating in the final day relegation-decider
against West Ham at SJP, when his deflected late strike seal United's Premier
League status - a confrontational goal celebration seemingly directed towards
Mike Ashley.
Gutierrez confirmed that the club had been less than supportive during his
illness and then claimed to have been informed of his release (along with Ryan
Taylor) in a phone call from John Carver soon after.
Joining Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna, Jonas was back in the UK the
following March to face his former
employer in a disability discrimination tribunal.
Finding in favour of the player, the tribunal ruled that United had to pay
damages of an undisclosed amount.
He signed for Argentinean side Defensa y Justicia in September 2016, moving
across Buenos Aires to Independiente the following July on a two-year deal.
However, he was back at Defensa on loan a year later, before making a permanent
switch to Banfield in July 2019.
Jonas retired in November 2021 after a brief
spell at Club Almagro. He then took over managerial duties at the
Argentinean second tier side in late 2023 but was ousted the following June.
July 2025 found him on Tyneside, featuring in an Adidas advert for Newcastle's new third kit
set in the Tyneside Irish Centre.

Supported by both Lindisfarne and Santana,
Dylan treated the crowd to renditions of:

2000 Striker Carl Cort
joined United for £7m from Wimbledon. His career was to consist of 24 starts
and eight goals in four years @ SJP.
Put another way, that's a million quid per league goal - one of a startling
number of big money flops to have worn black and white.
While not receiving treatment for his various injuries, Cort amused himself by
creating a disturbance in a Tyneside supermarket when his wife pushed into a
checkout queue.
The United player later went to court in an attempt to get a restraining order
against his wife, who by then was estranged from him.

2004 Bristol City boss and former Magpie defender Brian Tinnion signed 21

2010 Chris Hughton finally got his man when

An
incredible managerial decision by Luis Van Gaal in Holland's World Cup Quarter
Final against Costa Rica saw Tim Krul introduced in the 121st minute - purely to
take part in the looming penalty shootout.
Replacing the uninjured Jasper Cillessen in what looked to be a pre-arranged
switch, Tim
didn't even get a touch of the ball before the final whistle sounded on a
scoreless draw.
He promptly
repaid the faith of his coach by making two shootout saves in his first finals
appearance, as the Dutch won through 4-3.
His penalty record for United prior to the tournament hadn't been great, making
the decision even more remarkable.
2015 Northampton Town Manager Chris Wilder confirmed press reports
that striker Ivan Toney was set to join Newcastle.
2016 The departure of Fabricio Coloccini was confirmed after his contract
was terminated by mutual consent, allowing the player to return to
Argentina and join San Lorenzo.

Aside from efforts by Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey to cancel

failed to shine in front of goal.
