Saturday sees the Magpies face the Gunners at the Emirates.
It's a 5.30pm
kick-off live on Sky Sports.
Newcastle go into this game looking to avoid their fifth successive
defeat in all competitions, something that they haven't endured
since January 2021.
Arsenal meanwhile kick off second in the table, behind Manchester
City on goals scored.

to Newcastle on Saturday as follows:

The last train of the day to Newcastle leaves Kings Cross at 9.03pm,

AFC:
It's expected that Mikel Merino, Bukayo Saka, Jurrien
Timber and Riccardo Calafiori will all miss out on Saturday.
Arsenal have lost four successive domestic
matches including back-to-back Premier League games - the latter for
the first time since December 2023.
On home ground this season, Mikel Arteta's side have won 12, drawn
two and lost the other two of their 16 PL games - Manchester United
and Bournemouth both victorious. The only away side to keep a clean
sheet were Liverpool.
Referee: Sam Barrott - fourth appointment involved United
this season for the Yorkshire whistler, who took control of our 2-1
home win over Manchester City, 0-0 draw away at Wolves and 1-3 FA
Cup home loss to Manchester City.
VAR: Jarred Gillett
UK TV: Live on Sky Sports

Welsh trek for stiffs

Although their PL2 campaign ended without a place in the playoffs
following a failure to finish in the top 16, United's second string
will continue their season next week.
The Magpies will face Swansea City at the swansea.com Stadium
on Monday, kick-off 7pm. Admission is free but tickets must be
pre-ordered online (registration required).
If the scores are level after 90 minutes, 30 minutes extra time will
be played with a penalty shootout to follow if required.
Robbie Stockdale's side are one of 16 teams contesting the inaugural
Professional Development League play-offs, a competition involve the
following eight teams finishing in places 17 to 24 in PL2 (Category
One Academies):
Nottingham Forest, Everton, Reading, Stoke City, Newcastle, Wolves,
Norwich City and Derby County.
Plus the top eight PDL teams (Category Two Academies):
Brentford*, Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Swansea City, Peterborough United, Huddersfield Town,
Watford and Charlton Athletic.
The new competition runs as a straight knockout, with one-off ties
through to a final on or before Monday May 18th.
* Coinciding with their title victory, Brentford have been awarded
Category One Academy status for next season.

Update:
Villa capacity
reduced
Aston Villa confirm that rebuilding of the North Stand at Villa Park
will see a reduced capacity there next season.
Initially that will mean the loss of 6,500 seats, resulting in a
revised capacity of around 37,000. It's unclear whether the away
allocation of 3,000 in the Doug Ellis Stand will alter, as displaced
home fans are temporarily relocated.
Originally scheduled to take two seasons, Villa now claim that the
construction will be finished within a year, with 2027/28 bringing
an increased capacity of over 50,000.
Update:
Germans eye Gordon
Hours after confirming their latest Bundesliga title victory, Bayern
Munich's close season recruitment plans are predicted to include
bidding for Anthony Gordon.
The Times report that Newcastle have placed a £75m valuation
on the England international as they seek to finance their own
signings - and that representatives of Gordon may meet with the
Bayern officials soon.
The same outlet claims that Gordon is "open" to the prospect of a
switch to the Germans, rating them "clear favourites" ahead of other
suitors Liverpool and Arsenal.
PS: Bayern's interest in Gordon is believed to pre-date his move to
Tyneside in 2023 - links to the Bavarians reported during 2019, when
the-then 18 year-old had made just one senior competitive appearance
for the Toffees.

All PL fixtures
that weekend are provisionally listed as Sun 17.05.2026, with Sat
16.05.2026 set aside exclusively for the FA Cup Final to be played
at Wembley.
West Ham's FA Cup quarter-final defeat means that our fixture can
take place over that weekend, but depending on the live TV
selections could still be played on Fri 15.05.2026, Sun
17.05.2026 or Mon 18.05.2026.
PL games are also set to be played on Tue 19.05.2026, but it's
expected that those only will be the ones postponed due to teams
involved playing in the FA Cup Final.
Although PL's guidance stated that the live TV selections for that
weekend would be available on Wed 08.04, the FSA (Football
Supporters Association) spotted that this section of the PL
website was sneakily amended to read:
Post-FA Cup semi-finals:
FA Cup semi-finals take place on 25-26 April. This is to avoid
further amendments to Premier League matches scheduled for the same
weekend.

Season ticket
waiting
list announced
NUFC confirm that a season ticket waiting list will open up ahead of
next season, with a minimum of 250 available.
Entry to the waiting list is restricted to club members, who can
sign up between Mon 18.05.2026 and Sun 31.05.2026.
A ballot will then take place with entrants placed in priority
groups according to criteria set by the club. Ballot winners can
then purchase season tickets from Wed 10.06.2026.
While the purchase of a 2026/27 membership isn't required to join
the waiting list, anyone who doesn't win this ballot would need to
continue paying for membership in order to maintain their place in
the queue for future ST releases.
While the minimum figure of 250 for this year is set, there's no
mention of how many STs will be offered thereafter.

from Independiente del Valle.
The 16-year-old will officially
join the Magpies after his 18th birthday in the summer of 2027
(on May 10th) and will remain with Independiente del Valle in the

Sporting Director, said:
"We’re delighted to beat off serious competition from leading clubs

"He will continue his progress there while we maintain a close

him to Newcastle next year.”

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division usually get two hours head start.
NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log
on and complete your purchase.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants are then offered to unsuccessful applicants with a
reduced loyalty points total - new applications cannot be made at this time.
Only those within the new loyalty point total are
eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already
closed.
PL away ticket prices will remain unchanged at £30 for both 2026/27 and
2027/28.

On This Day in History |

23rd April |
|
Born Or Died:
1901 Albert
McInroy born, Walton-le-Dale,
Lancashire. (1929-34)
Goalkeeper who
celebrated his 31st birthday at Wembley
Stadium, as part of the Newcastle side that beat Arsenal
2-1 in the 1932 FA Cup Final.
Although appearing briefly for Preston North
End as an amateur outfield player, Albert
was on the books at Roker Park when he made
his professional debut early in the 1923/24
season, between the posts.
Winning one England cap (versus Northern
Ireland at Anfield in October 1926), a move
to Tyneside in October 1929 came at a cost
of £2,750 to the Magpies.
Following an absence through injury during
the 1933-34 season, Albert lost form when
recalled and following relegation, rowed with the SJP board over monies
due and left the club in the summer of 1934.
Returning to the mackems - although he
didn't make a first team appearance in 11
months back on wearside - Albert then joined
Leeds
United in 1935
Returning to the North East two years later,
he played for Gateshead until 1940 and
turned out for Stockton during wartime.
Later working as a publican in Newcastle,
Gateshead and Houghton-le-Spring, Albert
passed away in 1985.

1924
Frank Brennan born, Annathill, Scotland.
(1946-56)

Signed from Airdrie for £7,000
in July 1946, centre half Frank opted to join Newcastle despite offers from
both Preston North End and the mackems.
Debuting in United's first post-war Football League game (a 4-1 victory at
Millwall in August 1946), Brennan went on to become a cornerstone of the Newcastle United side that returned to the
First Division in 1948 and won the FA Cup in
1951 and 1952.
A Colossus of a man (nicknamed "The
Rock of Tyneside"), this Scottish international stood at 6ft 3in in
his size 12 boots and had a fighting weight
of 13 and a half stone.
Omitted from the 1955 Cup Final side as an alleged punishment for opening a
sports shop in the city to rival Chairman Stan Seymour's, Frank was
transfer-listed over a wage dispute, which outraged fans.
Playing his final game in January 1956, Frank joined North Shields as player/coach and remained there until 1962.
Coaching in Singapore and Trinidad for the British Council, Brennan returned to
Appleby Park in 1967, managing Shields to FA Amateur Cup success two years
later.
Following an unsuccessful stint as Darlington Manager in 1971 and some time
coaching South Shields, he concentrated on his business and lived in Whitley
Bay.
Frank passed away in March 1997 and some nine years after his death was nominated by United for the FA Cup Team of
Heroes, to celebrate 125 years of the competition.
His name also lives on in a trophy award annually by Sport Newcastle to unsung heroes of sport in the region.

1976
Darren Huckerby born, Nottingham.
(1995-96)

Winger whose major
contribution to history was the friendly match arranged as
part of the £450K transfer that brought him from Lincoln City to SJP
back in November 1995.
Injury denied Huck the chance to play in that game, but new boy Alan
Shearer featured and scored his first goal for the club in July 1996 at
a packed Sincil Bank.
By then he had already made what proved to be his sole league appearance for
United, coming off the bench to replace Paul Kitson in a home win over Bolton
in January 1996.
That came three days after his senior debut - also as a substitute - in an FA
Cup replay defeat on penalties at SJP to Chelsea.
Returning to fitness in the early weeks of the 1996/97 season, Darren was unable
to get near the first team and was loaned to Millwall for two months, scoring

Newly-installed Coventry City boss Gordon Strachan bid £1m for him and Huck
headed for Highfield Road in November 1996.
His first City goal came on his fourth outing - inevitably at home to
Newcastle.
The 1999/00 season began with Huck joining Leeds in a £400K deal but by
the end of 2000, he'd moved on to Manchester City.
Promotion to the Premiership followed in 2001/02 and Darren
scored against us again in what was to be our final fixture at Maine Road - a 0-1
reverse.
By then he was being managed once again by Kevin Keegan, who loaned him out to
Nottingham Forest in February 2003.
The next season saw Huck borrowed by Norwich City and he found life at Carrow
Road to his liking, with a permanent £750K deal agreed in December 2003.
He helped the Canaries to promotion and managed another goal against us, albeit in a League Cup defeat by Newcastle
at SJP.
The man nicknamed Forrest Gump since his time at Coventry finally ended his
stint in Norfolk in 2008 and moved to the USA with San Jose Earthquakes.
However, a hip problem forced him to hang up his boots following surgery in
2009, after which he set up his own PR company and became involved in a
charitable foundation - also becoming a Norwich City Ambassador.
