PL2 :
Mat's my

Latest (7pm KO):
Aston Villa U21s 3 Newcastle U21s
4
United's managerless U21 side are in PL2 action tonight,
facing Aston Villa under the lights at Bodymoor
Heath.
The Magpies made the best possible start when Matheos
Ferreira opened the scoring on six minutes, Korean Seung-Soo
Park quickly doubling the lead three minutes later.
Leading the line, 17 year-old
Ferreira then converted a 15th minute penalty
after Anthony Munda was fouled in the box by Owen Asemota.
Villa had won their last game at Bodymoor Heath 5-4 and got
on the scoresheet tonight when Cole Brannigan shot past
goalkeeper Aidan Harris four minutes before the interval.
The hosts then reduced the deficit to one goal during the first
minute of added time when Brannigan turned provider to set
up Brad Burrowes.
Both sides resumed after the interval with no changes and
United made it 4-2 in the 53rd minute, when Kyle Fitzgerald
was illegally tackled by Omar Khedr and Ferreira converted
his second spot kick of the net to complete his hat-trick.
Back came Villa though and Alfie Lynskey scored with his
first touch after coming off the bench, meeeting Trai-Varn
Mulley's 58th minute centre and heading home.
More to follow....
Team: Harris, Watts, Charlton, Pivas, C.Thompson,
M.Miley, Fitzgerald, Bailey, Ferreira, Munda, Park. Subs
n/u: Moran, J.Taylor, Finneran, Palmer, Mills.
Ferreira is the first Newcastle player to register a
hat-trick in a PL2 fixture since Elliott Anderson hit three
in a 3-1 win away to Nottingham Forest during November 2021.
AVFC: Asemota, Burgess, Lynch, Carroll, Mosquera,
Kone, Mulley, Jenner, Burrowes, Brannigan, Khedr (Lynskey
58). Subs

Brentford
(h)
The Magpies return to Premier League action on
Saturday, looking to end a winless three game run in that
competition when the Bees arrive on Tyneside.
It's a 5.30pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.
This will be Brentford's twelfth visit to SJP and they are
winless in the previous 11. Newcastle have never failed to
score against them in a home game.
United
are now winless in four games in all competitions,
their worst sequence since November and December 2024.
Failure to beat Brentford would make that five games - the
longest barren run since February and March 2023.
Team: Anthony Gordon is the latest concern, coming off before half time at Manchester City in
midweek with a hamstring issue. Speaking to the media on
Friday, Eddie Howe seemed to rule him out of facing
Brentford.
Bruno Guimaraes
sounds more
likely to feature on Saturday than Lewis Miley but that's
not 100%.
Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento, Emil Krafth and Joelinton
remain unavailable.
Assuming he plays, Sven Botman
will make his 100th appearance in all competitions for Newcastle.
Coral rate this game as follows:
NUFC win 17/20
The draw 14/5
BFC win 29/10

BFC:
Josh Dasilva, Antoni Milambo and Fabio Carvalho are out due
to injury.
Kevin Schade will be suspended following his red card
against Aston Villa. The midfielder netted the
opener in Brentford's 3-1 win over United last November.
Despite playing over half the game with 10 men, Brentford
won 1-0 at Villa Park - ending a run of successive losses.
Igor Thiago has scored 17 PL goals so far this season,
including a brace against United in the first meeting.
On the road this season, Keith Andrews has seen his side win
four games and lose the other eight.
Referee: Andy Madley - a quick return to Gallowgate for
the West Yorkshire whistler after he took charge of the 2-2
PL home draw with Chelsea in December 2025.

Departure:
Lascelles
leaves

Tuesday brought confirmation that long-serving central
defender Jamaal Lascelles had left Newcastle, joining
Championship side Leicester City for the remainder of the season, at
which point he'll become a free agent.
The 32 year-old made the last of 253 appearances against Arsenal
in September, having moved to Tyneside from Nottingham Forest in
August
2014 alongside Karl Darlow, the pair immediately returning to the City Ground
on loan.
Inheriting the number 6 shirt from Mike Williamson, Jamaal debuted
in the League Cup against Northampton Town in August 2015, before a harsh
introduction to the Premier League
coming off the bench to partner Fabricio Coloccini and Chancel
Mbemba in
a 1-6 loss at Manchester City,
The replacement of Steve McClaren by Rafa Benitez
failed to prevent relegation but was pivotal for Lascelles, who
became a regular starter and was made club captain.
One season in the second tier ended in spectacular style with Jamaal
holding the Championship trophy following a home win over Barnsley
and Brighton's draw at Villa.
Losing his place for the Premier League opener as Benitez partnered Ciaran
Clark with Florian
Lejeune, Paul Dummett almost immediately limped off
and Lascelles was back in.
Winning goals in successive games against Swansea City and
Stoke City were followed by news of a contract extension
and what became an effective pairing with Fabian Schar.
Retaining the captaincy after Benitez gave way to
Steve Bruce, Lascelles remained a regular until the
installation of Eddie Howe and later acquisitions of Dan Burn and Sven Botman
saw him slip down the pecking order.
An unused substitute at Wembley in the 2023 Carabao Cup Final,
Jamaal found his way back into the side again as Botman succumbed to
injury and Burn played at full back - starting all but one of
United's six Champions League ties and giving one of his standout
displays away to PSG.
Suffering a cruciate injury during a 4-3 home victory over West Ham
in March 2024, Lascelles was sidelined for over a year before
returning to action with a pair of substitute outings in the early
weeks of this season, by which time Malick Thiaw was through the
door.
His absence from the playing squad though didn't prevent Jamaal from
lifting the Carabao Cup with fellow captains Bruno Guimaraes and
Kieran Trippier last year - a fitting gesture to acknowledge his
long service to the cause.
Deadline day:
Old boys,
new clubs
Transfer deadline day saw Moussa Sissoko end his
second stint at Watford after completing a move to Greek
side Panathinnaikos, who are managed by Rafa Benitez.
Allan
Saint-Maximin joined French side RC Lens after leaving
Mexicans Club America while
Southampton's Adam Armstrong made a Premier
League return with Wolves.
Elsewhere, the meandering career of Nile Ranger has
now taken him to Chatham Town, while Dan Gosling has
stepped up from his U18 role with Watford to be joint
interim boss of the Hornets.
Update:

U18s:
No reward for late show
Manchester City U18s 3 Newcastle U18s 1
Saturday saw Newcastle
U18s become the latest side to succumb to Manchester City, as the
Northern Section Premier League leaders made it 12 wins from 13
games.
Beaten 1-7 on their last visit to City's Football Academy, United
got off to the worst possible start on eight minutes when an unforced
error by goalkeeper Roman Dowell allowed Dexter Oliver the easiest of finishes.
The visiting custodian then kept his side in the game with two
eye-catching stops to prevent Xavier Parker scoring.
That lead was extended four minutes before half-time when Christian
Dunbar-McDonald fired in a low shot - just seconds after Matheos
Ferreira had run from his own half deep into the City box but failed
to find the unmarked Michael Mills.
An improved showing from the young Magpies after the interval saw
them create three half-chances from close range in the opening five
minutes.
A penalty shout when a defender barged into United's Rory Finneran
was ignored by referee Steven Taylor (not that one) and the hosts
grabbed a third goal their next attack - Dunbar-McDonald smashing
home in the 58th minute.
Undaunted by the increasing deficit, the visitors pushed forward at
every opportunity, substitute Kacey Wooster quickly into the action
and denied by Ben Vickery.
Newcastle did get on the scoresheet with 15 minutes of normal time
remaining, when a long free kick from Mason Miley was headed home by Henry Johnson.
Michael Mills then saw his effort roll just wide of the target
before a handball in the box gave United a
penalty in the third minute of added time. However, Wooster could
only direct it straight at the 'keeper.
Team: Dowell, Johnson, Morgan (Hutchison 84), Durrant, Moran, Finneran,
Tikka-Lemba (M.Taylor 63), M.Miley, Ferreira (Wooster 63), Lucas (Pinnington
77), Mills.
Sub n/u: Anderson.
Booked: Ferreira, Lucas.
Update:
Loan lads

Antonio Cordero (Cadiz)
Sunday saw Cadiz beaten 0-1 at Huesca in La Liga 2 with the
Magpie winger (pictured) completing 85 minutes.
NUFC.com correspondent TT noted that after a quiet first half,
"Antonito" came more into his own and played well.
Harshly booked for a legitimate tackle, he subsequently sent over
two decent crosses from the left, both of which were directed wide
by the Cadiz forward Alvaro Pascual.
Charlie McArthur (Airdrieonians):
The defender remained on the bench on Tuesday, as his side
progressed to the last four of the Scottish Challenge Cup, winning
at Arbroath on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Trevan Sanusi (Lorient):
Wednesday's 2-0 home win over Paris FC in the French Cup
didn't feature the on-loan winger.
Matt Targett (Middlesbrough):
A 1-0 home win over Norwich City on Saturday boosted Boro's bid
for automatic promotion from the Championship. Targett completed
another 90 minutes.
Harrison Ashby/Joe White (Bradford City):
A welcome three points for the Bantams in League One on
Saturday thanks to a 1-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers at Valley
Parade, but both on-loan Mags were unused subs.
Max Thompson (Ayr United):
A winning debut for Max on Saturday, as Ayr defeated
Raith Rovers 2-1 at home in the Scottish Championship.
Our man at Somerset Park said, "Thompson superb today,
made one unbelievable save in the second half. Definitely a huge
upgrade for us!"
Joe Brayson (Morpeth Town):
Another start for the forward as Town lost 0-1 at home to Guiseley
in the Northern Premier League on Saturday.
It's unclear whether this was the final game of Joe's short
loan spell at the Highwaymen.
Travis Hernes (Groningen):
Saturday saw a 0-2 loss at Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie,
with the midfielder an unused replacement.
Odysseas Vlachodimos (Seville):
A load of balearics on Monday night, as Vlach & Co. were
beaten 1-4 at Real
Mallorca in La Liga.

Tuesday sees the Magpies back on the road, heading to N17 for a
Premier League meeting with Thomas Frank's Cockerels.
This will be United's seventh visit to the Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium, with the previous six bringing three wins, two losses and a
draw. The Magpies have netted in all six.
The two sides have already met twice this season: the corresponding
PL game ending 2-2 and Newcastle running out 2-0 winners at SJP in
the Carabao Cup.
It's a 7.30pm kick-off, live on TNT Sports.

Ahead of our visit, Spurs face Manchester United at Old Trafford on

Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division get a couple of hours head start.
Note that emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify because of your points total, just log

Born Or Died:
1903 John Robert Clark born, Newburn. (1923-28)
Bob was acquired from local football and made a scoring debut,
netting in a 1-0 win at home to Huddersfield Town in April 1923.
Partnering Hughie Gallacher for United, Bob helped United to Championship
success in the 1926/27 season, scored four goals in his seventeen league
appearances.
Moving on to Liverpool at a cost of £3,000 in January 1928, Clark later
appeared for Nottingham Forest before returning to the North East in 1932,
serving North Shields both as a player and coach.
Bob died in 1977, having returned to live in Newburn.

1958 Death of Tom Curry, 63. (1912-29)
Ex-Magpie Tom was victim of the Munich air disaster, having served as
Manchester United trainer from 1934 until his death.
A plaque honouring Curry was unveiled at his former home near Old Trafford in
2018.

1952 The FA Cup Fourth round meeting of Gateshead and West Bromwich
Albion took place in front of 39,287 fans at SJP.
The level of interest in the tie saw moved from Gateshead's Redheugh Park home
to Gallowgate, only to be postponed the previous Saturday due to a frozen pitch.
Staged with a 2.45pm start the following Wednesday, Albion won 2-0 thanks to a
goal in each half from Ronnie Allen.
The tie was played in a sombre atmosphere following the death of King George VI
hours earlier; a two minute silent tribute before kick-off accompanied by
"Abide with me" on the stadium PA.

1997 Paul Kitson left Newcastle for West Ham United at a cost of £2.3m,
forming a striking partnership with the considerably more expensive John Hartson.

2007 Newcastle striker Obafemi
Martins was absent from the Nigeria side as they lost 1-4 to Ghana in a friendly
played at Brentford's Griffin Park
ground.
2013 Magpies on international duty included a 1-1 draw in Amsterdam
between Tim
Krul's Holland and Davide Santon's Italy. Both played the full game, with Santon
gaining an eighth cap and first since joining United.
There was pitch time for Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko (France v Germany),
Shane Ferguson (Malta v Northern Ireland) and Fabricio Coloccini (Argentina v
Sweden).
2014 Newcastle confirmed the resignation of U21 coach Willie Donachie,
shortly after news broke of his suspension by the club.
That move followed reports of an incident in the Newcastle dressing room
following the reserve derby loss three days earlier.
It was claimed that Donachie and defender Remie Streete were involved in an
altercation broken up by other players.
A tackle by Streete led to the award of a penalty from which the mackems scored
the opening goal in a 2-0 home win.

goal from debutant Joe Willock and a pair from Miguel Almiron earned Newcastle
their first PL home win in six attempts.
The Saints were fresh from a 0-9 beating at Old Trafford and trailed 2-3 when
Jeff Hendrick was sent off after a stupid second yellow.
Danny Ings hit a post, Che Adams had a goal disallowed and ten men became nine
when Fabian Schar knacked himself taking a free-kick with all three substitutes
used.
Somehow those left standing survived for 18 more minutes (seven added) for a
memorable and vital victory.

2023 Conflicting reports from Turkey emerged regarding ex-Magpie
Christian Atsu following a severe earthquake.
Initial claims that he had been hospitalised gave way to reports that he was missing
- feared trapped in a collapsed apartment block. Sadly, that
proved to be accurate.
2025
0-1
down from the first leg, a 4-0 home win for Liverpool over Spurs meant that
the Carabao Cup holders would attempt to defend their trophy
against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium.
