Update:
Victor pursuit claimed

Having wrapped up
the signing of Ewen Jaouen, Newcastle have now reportedly turned
their attentions to the CA Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.
The right-footed 22 year-old predominantly plays on the left and is
seen as a replacement for Anthony Gordon.
Munoz is currently with the Spanish squad in North America for the
World Cup Finals and said to be available with a £34.5m release
clause.
Under contract until 2030, he joined Osasuna from Real Madrid last
summer. Spanish news outlets confirm that his former employers
retain part ownership in him as well as a buyback option, requiring
their involvement in negotiations.

Mag
Ewen - official

Newcastle confirmed
their first senior signing of the close season on Wednesday,
completing the transfer of Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for a
claimed £18.5m.
Standing at 6ft
6in, the 20 year-old Parisian flew
into Newcastle on Monday, before
completing the formalities of his move on Tuesday.
A fluent English speaker, Jaouen made 34
appearances last season for the Ligue 2 side, keeping 15 clean
sheets.
Winning his first U21
international cap against Switzerland in November 2025, Ewen began
his career with Guingamp. Switching to Reims in 2023, a senior debut
followed while on loan at Rodez during 2024.

The latest former Magpie to take on a role in the National League is
Robert Lee, who returns to his boyhood club Hornchurch as
their Director of Football.
Lee's appointment follows the recent arrivals of Lee Clark at Hartlepool United, Rob
Elliot at Carlisle United and Kieron Dyer at Southend United.
Update:
Ashley:
twist
in the (re)tail?
From Sky News - from shouting at shops to buying them?
Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group is weighing up a £500m bid for the Metrocentre in Gateshead, underlining the retail tycoon's burgeoning
appetite to own some of Britain’s most popular shopping
destinations.
Sky News has learnt that Frasers is among the parties considering
making offers for the north-east’s biggest shopping centre, which
boasted 16 million visitors last year.
Once part of Intu, the retail property group which collapsed into
administration in 2020 after amassing £4.5bn in debt, the
Metrocentre remains the UK’s biggest regional shopping hub outside
London.
Majority-owned by Mr Ashley but now run by his son-in-law,
Michael Murray, the company - which owns Sports Direct and a broad
portfolio of other retail brands - has a market valuation of £3.3bn.
If Frasers did buy the Metrocentre, it would mark a return on a
greater scale to the region where Mr Ashley had a 14-year stint as
the owner of Newcastle United.
Frasers Group declined to comment.

2026/27:
Everton (n) confirmed

Newcastle are to visit Edinburgh's Murrayfield
Stadium as part of their pre-season programme, facing
Everton.
The Magpies and Toffees meet on
Wednesday August 12th at 5.15pm with all ticket sales via Ticketmaster.
As NUFC aren't selling tickets direct, there's no loyalty point
requirement and no point will be issued to attendees.
Prices ranged from
£35 to £75 for adults plus booking fees of up to £13 - an
incredible uplift in cost compared to the £25 tickets at Celtic last
July.
While outrageous, the pricing is little shock to anyone attending
the Premier League Summer Series of games featuring Newcastle in the
USA during 2023.
That was also handled by Ticketmaster, with the cheapest ticket for
United's games against Aston Villa (in Philadelphia) and Chelsea (in
Atlanta) £49 when including booking fees.
There has been an inevitable backlash from fans unhappy at paying
the equivalent of Champions League ticket prices, the line "from
£35" factually correct but grossly misleading.
Although not administering this game (but presumably approving the
ticket prices), Newcastle's opportunity to make amends will arise in
the form of the home friendlies.
A sensible pricing policy for those games would seem like a small
but necessary action after the Lothian shakedown.
The teatime kick-off does mean that it's possible to get back to
London Kings Cross via train post-match - which may be handy, given
the price of hotels in Edinburgh due to the annual Fringe Festival
taking place at the same time.
We're uncertain whether this really is a "dry run" to test the
viability of staging future NUFC games at Murrayfield, were SJP to
be unavailable due to reconstruction.
Regarding the rest of pre-season, the players will report back
around
July 13th and include a training camp in the Spanish resort of La Manga.
A pair of home friendlies over the weekend of August 15th/16th are
anticipated, with opponents still tbc.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply for away tickets, 24 hours to determine success, then 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division usually get two hours head start.
NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log
on and complete your purchase.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants are then offered to unsuccessful applicants with a
reduced loyalty points total - new applications cannot be made at this time.
Only those within the new loyalty point total are
eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already
closed.
PL away ticket prices will remain unchanged at £30 for both 2026/27 and
2027/28.

Born Or Died:
1931
Tommy Cahill born, Glasgow, Scotland. (1951-55)

Left
back who began his career with Vale of Clyde and attracted
the attention of Celtic and Kilmarnock, turning out for
Fulham reserves while completing his national service in
the army and also representing that service on the field.
Returning to Glasgow, Tommy joined Vale of Leven and amid
interest from a host of clubs, signed for Newcastle in
December 1951 for a reported fee of £700 - former Magpie
player turned scout Jimmy Boyd having watched his progress
and seen off late interest from Celtic and Spurs.
Initially playing in the club's Northern Alliance XI,
Cahill's Central League bow came in a 0-1 home loss to
Burnley reserves the following January.
Understudy
Alf McMichael and Ron Batty,
Tommy belatedly made his first team debut in a 3-0 home
win over
Cardiff City on Christmas Day 1952. Tommy
kept his place for the next two games but had to wait
until February 1954 to make a fourth and final competitive
senior outing.
Allowed
to leave United in August 1955, he became the first
signing of former SJP colleague Joe Harvey after taking
charge of Third Division North side Barrow.
Playing over 300 games in
almost a decade at Holker Street,
Cahill ended his playing days with the Vickers Sports Club
in Barrow.
Tommy moved back to Glasgow for a time but returned to
Cumbria and lived on Walney Island.
Dying
suddenly in Spain during January 2003, he's buried in
Barrow cemetery.
Tommy junior also played for Newcastle's
youngsters, but was unable to emulate his
father and reach
the first team.

1977
Death of Joe Richardson, 66.
(1929-45,
coach 1945-77)
Gave a record 48 years of service
to United and was employed by the club to his death.
1976
Massimo Oddo born, Pescara, Italy (1997)
Right
back
on trial at United in September
1997 after failing to break into AC Milan's first XI and going on loan
to Serie
C sides Fiorenzuola, Monza and Prato.
Featuring in a 2-1 Pontins League victory away to Wigan
Athletic, no contract offer followed and Oddo returned to Italy.
Loaned by AC Milan to Lecco, Monza and Napoli over the
following seasons before joining Verona in 2000, his
performances
prompted Lazio to buy him in 2002.
An
international call-up followed and a 2006 World Cup winners medal
- although Oddo made just one substitute appearance during
the final tournament.
Returning to AC Milan in January 2007 at a cost of
£8m, Oddo was in the side who beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Champions League Final -
with Kenny Dalglish on ITV's pundits panel but failing to mention not fancying
him at NUFC a decade earlier.
Loaned out to Bayern Munich in the 2008/09 season, Oddo spent his last
season at Lecce before retiring in 2012.
Working at Genoa's youth academy during the 2013/14
season, a coaching career followed in Italy at Pescara,
Udinese, Crotone, Perugia, Pescara (again), Padova, SPAL
and Padova (again).
2025 found him back at former club AC Milan, taking charge
of their "Futuro" XI.
1987 Mohamed
Diame born, Créteil, France (2016-19)

The
eighth arrival of a hectic close season, Senegal international midfielder Diame
had scored the goal that earned Steve Bruce's Hull City a place in the Premier League the
previous season.
Playing for Racing Club Lens as a youngster, Mo left Spanish club
Rayo Vallecano for Wigan Athletic in 2009.
Three seasons at the Latics followed before a free transfer switch to West Ham
came in the wake of a failed move to Manchester United in 2012 (Liverpool also
attempted to sign him before Kenny Dalglish was sacked as their
manager).
Next came a £3.5m move to Hull during August 2014,
netting
against United in a 2-2 draw at Gallowgate in only his second appearance.
However, injury problems meant that Diame played just twice after December that
season as the Tigers were relegated.
A City regular in 2015/16, Mo's Newcastle debut came in a home loss to Huddersfield Town during August 2016.
His contribution to United's successful promotion campaign was significant, with goals at
Wigan, Burton and Brighton - the latter an outlandish
piece of fortune.
Three more strikes in the League Cup - one at former club Hull - doubled
his tally to six but there was always a feeling that there was more to come
from the midfielder amid some erratic displays.
After a slow start to life back in the Premier League, Diame suddenly
emerged as one of the driving forces as the Magpies finished tenth in
2018
Making less of an impact the following season but still
starting 24 times in the league, talk of a one year
extension came amid claims that Mo was intent on a two
year deal.
That was never a possibility given United's contractual
policy and he followed Rafa Benitez out of United after making
his final Toon appearance at Fulham in 2019.
A move to Al Ahli SC
in Qatar soon followed; Rafa's successor Steve Bruce
admitting that he'd have tried to keep Diame at SJP if he'd been
appointed earlier, having
managed him at Hull City.
June 2021 saw Diame leave Al-Ahli and he
remained clubless until the following April when agreeing a
short-term deal at Spanish second tier side Fuenlabrada.
However, he was unable to prevent their relegation and moved
on to Qatar side
Al-Sailiya in January 2023 before hanging up
his boots.
Internationally, Mo represented Senegal 36 times from 2011 and featured in
their side the 2012 Olympic games in England.
Following the African Cup of Nations Finals in January 2017 however, he
announced his international retirement.

the wake of his on-field scrap with Kieron Dyer.
Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and West Ham also sniffed around, with the latter ultimately signing the
