Latest:
Moving the goalposts

Although five of Newcastle's remaining Premier League games are now confirmed, the remaining two remain subject to change - Friday bringing further frustration with regard to our final home game of the campaign against West Ham.

Although PL's guidance stated that the live TV selections for that weekend would be available last Wednesday, the FSA (Football Supporters Association) have spotted that this section of the PL website was sneakily amended to read:

Post-FA Cup semi-finals.

FA Cup semi-finals take place on 25-26 April. This is to avoid further amendments to Premier League matches scheduled for the same weekend.

So, with no prior warning, the PL have reduced the time period to make plans involving that game by almost three weeks: further proof if it were needed that match-going supporters are the very least of their concerns.

Sun 17.05.2026 tbc West Ham (h) 3pm tbc
All PL fixtures that weekend are provisionally listed as Sun 17.05.2026, with Sat 16.05.2026 set aside exclusively for the FA Cup Final to be played at Wembley.

West Ham's FA Cup Quarter-final defeat means that our fixture can take place over that weekend, but depending on the live TV selections could be played on Fri 15.05.2026, Sun 17.05.2026 or Mon 18.05.2026.

PL games are also set to be played on Tue 19.05.2026, but it's expected that those only will be the ones postponed due to teams involved playing in the FA Cup Final.

Sat 25.04.2026 Arsenal (a) 5.30pm Sky
PL advice regarding this game is that the rescheduled slot remains "subject to participation in UEFA competitions."

Should Arsenal win their Champions League Quarter-final tie against Sporting Lisbon, they'd be in Semi-final first leg action on Tue 28.04.2026 or Wed 29.04.2026.

Following the first leg in Portugal, the Gunners lead 1-0 going into the second leg on Wed 15.04.2026.

Our visit to Arsenal remains at risk of further rescheduling at very short notice, although their exit from the CL rather than progression in it looks to be the deciding factor for the PL.

The lack of any PL games on Sun 26.04.2026 had prompted speculation that our game could be moved were Arsenal to be eliminated by Sporting - and then have a free midweek following our visit.

However, Arsenal have now confirmed that their Women's Champions League Semi-final against Lyon will be played at the Emirates on Sun 26.04.2026.

That removes the Sunday option and whether the Arsenal men are still in the CL or not, there seems no reason for a further amendment to our rescheduled fixture at 5.30pm on Sat 25.04.2026. Hopefully.

Premier League:
Crystal Palace (a)

Newcastle return to Premier League action on Sunday, facing the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

It's a 2pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.

Following a 2-0 home success in January, United go in search of their first PL win double over Palace since the 2013/14 season.

Team:
Speaking to the media on Friday, Eddie Howe said that Lewis Miley was in line for a return but both Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar remained out.

Sidelined for the club's last 11 games in all competitions, Bruno isn't predicted to return until the Arsenal game later this month after suffering with an unspecified illness since returning from his injury rehabilitation in Brazil.

Schar is undergoing a further operation - this time on his foot - and is expected to miss another month on top of the 21 league and cup fixtures he's already sat out.

Sven Botman underwent facial surgery in the wake of the derby loss and could be involved at Palace wearing a protective face mask.

Joelinton goes into this game on nine PL bookings - if he makes it ten against Palace he'll land a two game ban, but that doesn't happen then the threat will be lifted.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 29/20
The draw 12/5
CPFC win 9/5

CPFC: Eddie Nketiah isn't expected to be available.

Ahead of our visit, Oliver Glasner's side beat Fiorentina 3-0 at Selhurst Park in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final on Thursday night.

Palace's away form remains better than on home territory; winning just three of their 15 PL games at Selhurst, drawing seven and losing the other five.

Their home scoring record of 14 goals is the second-fewest in the PL, one more than Nottingham Forest.

Referee: Andy Madley - third Magpie posting of the season for the West Yorkshire official, following the 2-2 home draw with Chelsea and 2-3 loss to Brentford at Gallowgate.

U21s:
PL2 update

Although their hopes of a top 16 finish and a place in the playoffs rely on results elsewhere, Newcastle U21s have a significant part to play in the race for the PL2 title.

Tonight sees them face a Manchester United side at Leigh Sports Village (now known as the Progress with Unity Stadium) with the Red Devils level on points with leaders Chelsea at kick-off, although trailing on goal difference.

Chelsea meanwhile will take on Fulham at Motspur Park - both games kicking off at 7pm.

There's an added edge to the clash of the two Uniteds, with the Red Devils now managed by Adam Lawrence - who was Newcastle U21 boss for a spell earlier in the season.

FAO anyone looking to attend our game at Leigh, admission is by advance ticket only, available online here until kick-off. No tickets are available to buy over the counter or at the turnstiles.

The U21s then conclude their PL2 campaign by facing Wolves at Whitley Park on Monday (7pm).

Update:
Tripps away

Newcastle confirm the full back Kieran Trippier's current contract won't be extended and will expire this summer.

Now 35, Trippier became United's first senior signing of the post-Mike Ashley era when making a £12m switch to SJP from Atletico Madrid in early 2022.

He's made 157 appearances in all competitions, pivotal in lifting United from a relegation spot into Carabao Cup winners via a pair of Champions League campaigns.

Trippier quotes:

"The time has come to leave this amazing club after four-and-a-half years. This is where I have felt most at home. It's emotional, and I'm really going to miss it.

"I want to say a massive thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good and the bad times. You've always supported me, always stood by me.

"To my team mates, it's going to be emotional. It's been an amazing journey with you guys. I'm going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you guys was really, really special - the best of my career.

"And to the manager, Eddie Howe, all the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a massive thank you. The gaffer had the trust - twice - to sign me, gave me the opportunity to represent and captain this great club and most importantly, we managed to win a trophy.

"I'm going to miss everyone at the club. Thank you."

Eddie Howe:

"Kieran has been magnificent for us on and off the pitch. From the moment he walked through the door, he has helped to drive standards that have changed the club's trajectory.

"His performances on the pitch have been to the highest level. Building strong partnerships with the players around him. His outstanding technical ability helped elevate the team and his strong crossing ability helped create many goals and chances for his team mates.

"His leadership skills have been invaluable. In difficult moments his experience has proved calming and his drive and will to win has inspired the players to keep pushing forward.

"While we'll be saying goodbye to Kieran shortly, we also know we have a lot left to play for this season, and I know a player of Kieran's character will be giving absolutely everything to end his time here on a high."

Ross Wilson, Newcastle United's sporting director:

"Kieran should be so proud of the contribution he has made to Newcastle United's progress over the last four-and-a-half years.

"I've admired Kieran from a distance for many years, and seeing him up close in recent months has only reinforced the impact he has as a leader, both in the dressing room and on the pitch.

"When the time comes, Kieran will leave with the respect and gratitude of everyone connected with Newcastle United. We wish him every success in whatever comes next."

Update:
Opportunity Knox

Newcastle United have agreed a sponsorship deal with South African sports drink company KNOX, including training ground naming rights and training kit sleeve sponsorship.

From July 1st, the three year deal worth £18m in total sees United's
Darsley Park training ground renamed The KNOX.

Meanwhile the club's teams - men, women and academy - will wear training kit that includes KNOX sleeve branding.

Efforts to secure a main (front of shirt) sponsor for training kit remain ongoing, while news of a shirt sponsor to replace SELA when that deal expires this summer is also awaited.

PS: Thanks to NUFC.com reader Gary Taylor for the image of KNOX products taken in South Africa.

Update:
Toon in the USA

Newcastle have two representatives in the England U16 squad selected for games in the US state of Florida.

London-born defender Aristide Lesecond Yeutembip* and midfielder Jayden Kouossu who hails from Milan are both named in a 23 man party for games against the USA (April 16th), Argentina (19th) and Mexico (22nd).

* known as Les.

Update:
Loan lads

Max Thompson (Ayr United):
Another night on the bench for the goalkeeper as Ayr lost 0-3 at home to Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship on Tuesday.

Matt Targett (Middlesbrough):

Injury meant that Matt missed Monday's 2-2 draw at Swansea City in the Championship.

Harrison Ashby/Joe White (Bradford City):

Harrison made only his second start for the Bantams as a 2-1 win at Wycombe Wanderers boosted their chances of remaining in the League One playoff places.

Fielded at right wing back, he completed 80 minutes at the cost of a booking.

Tyler Jones (Dunston UTS):
The goalkeeper wasn't involved on Monday as Dunston won 3-0 at Newton Aycliffe in the Northern Premier League.

Antonio Cordero (Cadiz)
No pitch time for the on-loan Magpie as Cadiz lost 1-3 at home to Cordoba in La Liga 2 on Saturday.

Charlie McArthur (Airdrieonians):

The defender completed the entirety of Saturday's 4-0 win away to Ross County in the Scottish Championship
.

Travis Hernes (Groningen):

The midfielder watched Saturday's 2-0 win at Telstar in the Eredivisie from the bench.

Trevan Sanusi (Lorient):

There was no involvement for the winger in Sunday's 1-1 home draw against Paris FC in Ligue 1.

Odysseas Vlachodimos (Seville):

The goalkeeper kept his place for Sunday's 0-1 defeat away to Real Oviedo in La Liga.

Update:
More silverware
for Young Mags

Following on from their recent triumph in the Premier League International Tournament, Newcastle's U15 side enjoyed further trophy success over the Easter weekend.

The Toon prospects travelled to the Dutch city of Rotterdam and lifted the Orange Veins Cup after a penalty shootout victory over PSG in the final on Monday.

Four 30 minute group stage games on Sunday saw United win twice and draw twice to finish first in their section and progress to the following day's semi-finals.

They then recovered a 0-1 half time deficit against Borussia Monchengladbach to win 3-1, thanks to late efforts from Charlie Robinson (2) and Daniel Hynd.

That set up a final against PSG that ended 1-1 with Muawiya Ghanem opening the scoring for the black and whites before the French youngsters levelled.

Newcastle then won the penalty shootout that followed, with goalkeeper Lucas Flack making a vital stop.

Update:
Derby abuse: arrest made

From The Northern Echo, Wednesday:

A man has been arrested following reports of racist abuse during March's Tyne-Wear derby.

The incident took place during the match at St James’ Park on March 22.

A 45-year-old man from the Gateshead area was arrested on Tuesday. He was detained on suspicion of a racially-aggravated public order offence and has since been released on bail.

Sunderland defender Lutsharel Geertruida reported the abuse during the second half of the match, prompting referee Anthony Taylor to pause the game.

Detective Inspector Phil Guard of Northumbria Police said: "Racial abuse has absolutely no place in football or in our communities, and we will not tolerate this type of behaviour.

"Following proactive policing enquiries and close partnership working with both clubs and their supporters, a suspect has been arrested.

"They have since been bailed with robust conditions while the investigation continues.

"We will continue to work with clubs, supporters and partner agencies to tackle any form of criminality at football matches."

Newcastle United released a statement condemning the reported abuse, stating: "Our stance is clear – we do not tolerate discrimination of any form.

"We will work with the authorities to fully investigate and will ensure any individuals are identified and held accountable."

Sunderland also offered their support to the player and condemned the incident.

A spokesman said: "We stand with Lutsharel, who has our complete backing, and we commend him for displaying bravery and leadership by reporting this incident to the match officials.

Bournemouth (h)

Saturday week - April 18th - sees the Cherries in Toon, as
Eddie Howe makes another attempt to record a first Premier League success for the Magpies against his former club.

Although Newcastle have beaten Bournemouth at SJP in both Carabao Cup and FA Cup ties under Howe, they are winless in all seven home or away PL meetings to date - drawing five and losing the other two.

It's an old-fashioned, non-televised 3pm start.

The visitors have taken an allocation of 1,726 tickets.

ST holders have 24 hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to buy.

Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.

Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.

The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above that point division usually get two hours head start.

NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log on and complete your purchase.

Tickets not bought by successful applicants are offered to applicants with a reduced loyalty points total. Only those within the new loyalty point total are then eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already closed.

PL away tickets remain at £30 for the rest of this season, 2026/27 and 2027/28.

On This Day in History
10th April

Born Or Died:

1974 Andreas Andersson born, Osterhoninge Sweden. (1998-99)

A Swedish international who won a domestic title with Gothenburg, Andersson moved to AC Milan but struggled in Serie A and was acquired by Kenny Dalglish - who claimed that he'd had 100 strikers scouted before deciding to bring him to Tyneside.

The other 99 must have been truly bloody dreadful, as he failed to impress on his debut away to Aston Villa in February 1998 and little changed in the following 14 months before his final first team outing.

Belatedly breaking his scoring duck at the tenth time of asking at home to Barnsley, Andersson then netted in the next game to force a draw at Old Trafford.

However, he continued to show a singular lack of appetite for the fight; maybe he'd have fared better if he'd dumped the Alice band in favour of a short back and sides...

Ending the season with a woeful bench outing in the FA Cup Final loss to Arsenal, his next goal came early the following season in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea before Ruud Gullit's installation as manager.

The fourth and final senior goal of his time in Toon came just after Christmas 1998 during a 2-4 loss at Anfield, a month after United had invested £8m in the rather more forceful forward talent of Duncan Ferguson.

Losing his place in the senior squad, by the end of the 1998/99 season Andersson was reduced to scuffing about in Pontins League Division 2 for United reserves, hitting four in a 6-1 home win over the footballing might that is Lincoln City Reserves.

What proved to be his final sighting in a Newcastle shirt came in a pre-season game against Dutch minnows Helmond Sport in July 1999, United recouping £2m of their £3m outlay a month later when Andreas returned to Sweden with AIK Solna.

A serious knee injury sustained in 2003 would prompt his retirement two years later, although he did subsequently appear for Swedish lower league sides Hova IF and FC Andrea Doria.

1985 Jesus Gamez born, Fuengirola, Spain. (2016-18)

United deviated from their transfer age range when acquiring this 31 year-old full back from Atletico Madrid during July 2016.

Beginning his career in Malaga's B team, Jesus was promoted to the senior side for the first time in November 2005.

The following nine seasons saw Gamez make over 250 appearances for Malaga, helping them gain promotion, becoming captain and playing in the Champions League.

Facing United in the Schalke 04 Cup during August 2014, within days he'd completed a £4.3m move to Atletico Madrid where he featured at both left and right back.

Entering the final year of his deal in 2016, a return to Malaga looked likely until an offer to join fellow countryman Rafa Benitez
on Tyneside was made.

Featuring in pre-season, Gamez was sent off during a 4-0 win at Lokeren for the Spanish equivalent of handbags with an opponent.

However, fitness issues delayed Jesus' debut until he played at left back in a 2-0 home win over Cheltenham Town in August 2016.

A collarbone injury sustained in a home loss to Blackburn Rovers then kept him sidelined until he appeared in the woeful FA Cup loss at Oxford United the following January.

Briefly appearing in the side towards the end of the Championship-winning season, Gamez made his Premier League debut and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win at Swansea City during September 2017.

However, what proved to be his final outing for the club came a fortnight later away to Brighton and he spent the remainder of the season out with an ankle problem.

Jesus departed in May 2018 having played ten games from a possible 94 and amassed 558 competitive minutes on the field - one of Rafa Benitez's less inspired acquisitions.

He didn't appear anywhere else before retiring.

2000 Adam Wilson born, Ashington.
(2016-22)

Winger with United from the age of ten, who began his career at Newcastle City Juniors.

Debuting for the U18s at Blackburn Rovers in January 2016, Adam signed a two-year scholarship with Newcastle later that year.

Blooded at reserve level against Hartlepool United in October 2017, Wilson's maiden strike came at Swansea four months after.

International recognition came his way two months later, selected by England U18 for a four team friendly tournament at St. George's Park and debuting against Qatar.

Adam then ended the season in possession of a Northumberland Senior Cup winner's medal following victory over Morpeth Town at SJP.

Signing his first professional contract in July 2018, Wilson was selected by Rafa Benitez to train with the Magpies first team, but missed part of the U23s season through injury.

More fitness issues saw Adam missing for large periods over the following seasons before returning to the U23s in 2021/22.

Released in Summer 2022 after scoring at Aston Villa on what proved to be his final appearance, he joined Welsh Premier League side The New Saints, helping them to the championship in his first season and qualification for the Champions League.

Adam joined Bradford City in August 2023 but returned to The New Saints 12 months later on loan, later making that switch permanent.

He debuted for the Kenya national side in June 2025, qualifying through his mother.

However some over-elaboration in the box meant that Foxes 'keeper Mark Wallington was beaten just once - and Imre Varadi's ninth minute header was ruled out for an offside.

At the third time of asking, Ossie Ardiles saw his side collect their first point and net for the first time since his arrival.

The game had been abandoned at half time due to heavy rain some three weeks earlier with United 1-0 ahead through Mick Quinn.

Fellow striker Andy Hunt's first senior goal for the club opened the scoring this time round; a fine bicycle kick at the Leazes End.

Magpies 'keeper John Burridge then palmed Paul Simpson's shot into the net for 1-1.

Quinn optimistically claimed his side's second after he flicked on Steve Watson's throw-in into the path of Andy Melville, who headed firmly into his own goal.

Future Magpie coach Paul Simpson bagged salvaged a point for Brian Horton's U's when a late long-range strike flew into the top left hand corner of John Burridge's goal.

Following a 3-0 win at Cambridge and a 6-0 home drubbing of Barnsley, what would be the eighth and last defeat of our promotion season came at a sunny Molineux.

Top scorer Steve Bull was missing for Wolves, but Andy Mutch fired home from close range after stand-in striker Mark Rankine centred.

Having netted five times in three games, Andy Cole drew a blank while David Kelly was denied an equaliser for a handball decision on a day when United looked distinctly jaded.

Magpies boss Kevin Keegan came over all John McCririck post-match:

"The lads can see the winning post; we are sat with the best horse with the right jockey on board, but we have still got to make sure we don't misjudge the race."

A tale of two errors at White Hart Lane, but while Spurs got away with theirs - the Magpies didn't.

Returning after three months, full back Celestine Babayaro laid a ball to Steve Harper. However his weak clearance was blocked by Simon Davies - the deflection falling nicely for Jermaine Defoe to net.

It was a disappointing moment for Harps, playing his first top-flight away game since appearing here back in January 2001.

In the second half, Paul Robinson then tried a short pass to the unaware Anthony Gardner. In nipped James Milner and only needed to chip the ball over the Spurs 'keeper but instead screwed his effort horribly wide.

Two terrible teams tried to outdo each other in the mediocrity stakes at Villa Park, safe in the knowledge that they would meet again in the Premier League the following season.

In the end it was Villa who took all three points with a simple header but neither team deserved credit for a tortuous display in front of a live TV audience who presumably nodded off after their Sunday roasts.

United ended the game with a front duo of Peter Lovenkrands and Shefki Kuqi - the latter replacing Nile Ranger. Depressing.
