This is the fifth successive season United have rounded off their preparations with a home double header:

2026/27:
TV times

The Premier League have now published the revised fixture schedule for live TV covering August and September, with Newcastle's opening four games all altered:

Sun 23.08.2026 Liverpool (h) 4.30pm Sky
Sat 29.08.2026 Spurs (a) 5.30pm Sky
Sat 05.09.2026 Bournemouth (h) 12.30pm TNT
Mon 14.09.2026 Leeds United (a) 8pm Sky*
Sat 19.09.2026 Hull City (h) 3pm no live UK TV

* if NUFC or LUFC are in the Carabao Cup Third Round and drawn against a club in the Champions League (Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United), this game will be on Sat 12.09.2026 @ 12.30pm.

Assuming both sides survive the Second Round, a final decision on the PL game will rest on the Third Round draw, which takes place on or around Tue 25.08.2026.

The possible move is because Carabao Cup Third round ties are once again split over two weeks, the first clashing with Matchday 1 in the Champions League Group stage.

PS: Although trains are scheduled to run as usual between Newcastle and London on the day of the Spurs away game, Kings Cross station will be closed the following day.

Update:
Ajax midfielder arrives

A deal taking 18 year-old Sean Steur from Eredivisie side Ajax to Newcastle has been agreed, with the central midfielder flying in to be met by club staff on Tuesday.

His medical was then booked for Wednesday, with Sky cameras capturing him at the KNOX training ground.

A fee of around £23m is reported for Steur, who is under contract until 2028 and represented by the same agency as current Magpies Harvey Barnes, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento plus manager Eddie Howe.

Capped by Netherlands up to U19 level, Steur made his competitive senior team debut for Ajax in February 2025, adding 25 appearances last season including three in the Champions League. He registered his first goal away to Feyenoord last March, a right-footed effort here

A product of the Ajax academy, he completed 45 minutes of the opening friendly against Panathinaikos on Saturday, leaving the Ajax training camp after agreement on a deal taking him to Gallowgate was arrived at.

Giveaway:

Wrecking crew

A century on from the General strike, a headline-grabbing incident in Northumberland during May 1926 is dramatically recalled at Newcastle's Theatre Royal this Sunday (12th).

"The Cramlington Train Wreckers" tells the true story of a group of miners whose attempt to stop a coal train instead saw them inadvertently derail a prestige passenger express - paying a heavy price for their act of sabotage.

The last remaining seats are on sale here

We have two tickets to give away for Sunday's production and to be in with a chance of winning, email your answer to this question to [email protected] subject line Train:

Which passenger service did the Train Wreckers derail?

Closing date Noon on Thursday July 9th. NB: due to the short turnaound, please don't enter unless you will be in a position to use the prize this coming Sunday.

The prize is tickets x2 to the 7.30pm performance of Cramlington Train Wreckers on Sunday 12 July 2026 at Newcastle Theatre Royal.

Please see here for further performance information.

The prize is for the above performance only and is not transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.

Tickets will be emailed to the winner prior to the day of the performance.

PS: Ahead of Sunday's show in Newcastle, there are also performances in Derry on Thursday and Belfast on Friday.

Update:
Academy scholars announced

Now let's meet the eight who are going to generate.... United's latest intake of school leavers are as follows:

Roman Dowell and George Mair (goalkeepers), Lesecond Yeutembip (defender), Chukwudi Afumuzor, Jayden Kouossu and Alfie Seldon (midfielders), Theo Benjamin and Leon Mukumbira (forwards).

All eight debuted competitively last season for United U18s, four of them previously at other academies (Afumuzor with Portsmouth, Koussou with West Bromwich Albion, Yeutembip with Charlton Athletic and Mukumbira at Peterborough).

New arrivals at Newcastle's academy are awaited, amid claims that deals are in place for defender Kyle Healy-Matthews (formerly with West Ham) and midfielder Kyran Thompson (formerly with Arsenal).

The future of Eli Hall is uncertain following his exit from Ipswich Town, with both United and Spurs linked.

Incoming:
Baz is a Mag - official

Newcastle announced the signing of left winger Bazoumana Toure from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on Sunday. A fee of around £43m is reported, although officially undisclosed.

The 20 year-old Ivory Coast international flew to Tyneside with his representatives on Thursday, with social media images then circulating on Friday of him inside SJP.

Toure's participation at the World Cup Finals ended with Ivory Coast's defeat by Norway on Tuesday, having made three appearances (one start and two from the bench).

He moved from Swedes Hammarby to Hoffenheim in January 2025 transfer window, netting five times last season.

Toure becomes the third Ivorian to represent United after Cheick Tiote and the rather less-celebrated loan flop, Seydou Doumbia.

The Magpies previously did business with Hoffenheim in 2019, purchasing Joelinton for a claimed £40m fee.

Toure is reportedly represented by Unique Sports Group, whose other clients include Anthony Gordon, Jacob Ramsey, Malick Thiaw and Lewis Miley.

PS: The Magpies continue to be linked with right-sided midfielder Johan Manzambi of Freiburg.

The 20 year-old is currently at the World Cup Finals with Switzerland, but sat out Tuesday's last 16 tie against Colombia due to a knee injury.

Update:
Deadline set for L7 Singing section moves

NUFC confirm that they continue to accept requests from current season ticket holders to relocate into a dedicated singing section at the North West Corner of Level 7.

These must be made by Fri 17.07.2026. Details

Update:
Another loan for Antonio

Spanish newspaper Marca report that Newcastle have concluded a further loan agreement for Antonio Cordero, who will return to Cadiz for the coming season.

Signed by the Magpies last summer, the 19 year-old winger had an unprofitable loan spell with Belgians KVC Westerlo before agreeing to join Cadiz at the turn of the year.

Following a slow start, Cordero got more pitch time after two changes of coach, ending up as a Cadiz crowd favourite after they avoided relegation from the Spanish second tier.

World Cup updates:

Dan Burn (England) Mexico won 3-2
Sat 11.07.2026 Norway, Miami, 10pm itv

Burn is the 36th different player to feature at the World Cup Finals while a Magpie and the eleventh representing England after messrs Milburn, Broadis, Beardsley, Shearer, Batty, Lee, Dyer, Owen, Trippier and Wilson.

He's the sixth current Magpie to appear at this tournament, one more than the previous high of five in 2014 and 2022.

SJP old boys still in play include Mikel Merino (Spain) plus England's Elliot Anderson, Anthony Gordon and Ivan Toney.

Outgoing:
Sandro away

Latest: Tonali's transfer was announced on Monday, the player taking to social media with a message for Newcastle fans that appears to be AI-generated.

The reference to his "son born during my time here" in that statement was at least accurate, that birth taking place in a private hospital in London last January, not Tyneside.

Earlier: Newcastle's second high-profile player departure of the summer was sealed on Wednesday, after a deal taking Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur was finalised.

Tonali was spotted flying from Milan to London on Thursday to complete the formalities of his medical.

A fee of £92.5m was agreed plus £7.5m in add-ons, with the 26 year-old Italian international midfielder collecting a weekly wage of £275K - more than double his current earnings and enough to offset the stigma of joining a side who have finished seventeenth in each of the last two seasons...

The first player to swap the Magpies for Cockerels since Moussa Sissoko almost a decade ago, Tonali is set to make his PL home debut for Spurs against United in late August.

Although there was some noise about rumoured interest from Manchester City, that failed to translate into an actual bid, leaving Spurs as the only serious suitors for Tonali.

On that basis the Magpies look to have done good business for a player who, like Anthony Gordon, clearly saw his future away from Tyneside and whose variable displays contributed to our own mediocre domestic campaign. Avoiding another damaging Alexander Isak-style saga is also refreshing.

Inbound recruitment though is where the real interest lies - which will help to answer the imponderable question of whether there's enough of a "project" to prevent Bruno Guimaraes from joining what would become an exodus.

Rightly described as talismanic by one writer in recent days, the monetary value of the 28 year-old currently producing on a global stage at the World Cup for Brazil may be at his maximum, but his exit really would trigger alarm bells.

ST holders have 24 hours to apply for away tickets, 24 hours to determine success, then 48 hours to buy.

Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.

Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.

The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above that point division usually get two hours head start.

NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log on and complete your purchase.

Tickets not bought by successful applicants are then offered to unsuccessful applicants with a reduced loyalty points total - new applications cannot be made at this time.

Only those within the new loyalty point total are eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already closed.

PL away ticket prices are unchanged at 30 for both the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons.

On This Day in History
8th July

Born Or Died:

1959 Imre Varadi born, Paddington, London. (1981-83)

Of Hungarian parentage, Ray's career began at non-league Letchworth Town before joining Sheffield United in April 1978.

Within a year he'd moved on to Everton, but failed to establish himself in the Toffees first team until notching the winner in an FA Cup against Liverpool January 1981 made him something of a cult figure at Goodison.

Made available that summer, Varadi signed for Newcastle in a £125K deal following an unsuccessful trial with Benfica.

A never-say-die attitude endeared him to Newcastle fans who had endured the likes of Bobby Shinton and Mick Harford since the loss of talismanic centre forward Peter Withe to Aston Villa in 1980.

Breaking his scoring duck after eight games with a hat trick in a 4-0 win at Cardiff, Varadi was later paired with mackem loan signing Alan Brown to good effect.

And although no permanent deal for Brown was concluded, Varadi continued to supply goals in an average side that season - scoring 20 in all competitions.

He was to better that total by two in the following season, by which time Kevin Keegan had arrived at Gallowgate. A late season run of scoring almost saw United gatecrash the promotion party - with Varadi grabbing 11 goals in his last ten outings.

A move to Sheffield Wednesday on the eve of the 1983/84 season caused consternation for a time on Tyneside, but the arrival of Peter Beardsley from Vancouver soon smoothed things over.

Varadi was paired with future Magpie Tony Cunningham to good effect for the Owls, both scoring in a 4-2 win over United at Hillsborough - Varadi preserving his good reputation by avoiding a goal celebration in front of the large travelling contingent.

Later moves saw him represent West Bromwich Albion, Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday again, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday yet again, Luton Town (loan), Oxford United (loan), Rotherham United, Mansfield Town, Boston United and Scunthorpe United.

Moving into non-league circles, Varadi was installed as Matlock Town player boss, also serving Guiseley, Stalybridge Celtic and Denaby United.

He later worked as a player's agent and a Press Association match
reporter.

What Else?

1927 Reg Keating completed a move from Newcastle to Lincoln City, having failed to play a senior competitive game during his year on the books at Gallowgate.

Reg was the younger brother of former Magpie Bert, who had made 12 first team appearances between 1922 and 1925.

1980
United signed Ray Clarke from Brighton and Hove Albion for £180,000.

Forced into retirement by a knee problem within a year of arriving, centre forward Clarke returned to Tyneside during 2005 as European scout for Graeme Souness and was involved in the acquisition of goalkeeper Tim Krul.

1993 Nearly a double transfer swoop by Kevin Keegan; firstly he frightened John Hall into agreeing to pay Everton £1.5m for Peter Beardsley after inventing a fake mackem bid and then flew to Heathrow to meet Soviet Striker Sergei Yuran and his battalion of advisors.

After hearing the outrageous wage demands Keegan chose not to do business, being proved right when Yuran later appeared for Millwall, looking overweight and ineffective in a lower league team.

1994 Full back Mark Robinson joined Swindon Town for £600k, having failed to secure a first team spot after recovering from an injury inflicted on him by Ian McGuckin during a pre-season visit to Hartlepool United.

He went on to play over 300 games at the County Ground before being released in May 2002. Robbo then briefly joined non-league Chippenham Town before retiring.

2002 The Sunday Sun claimed that Peruvian midfielder Martin Hidalgo, who spent some time training with Newcastle, was on Tyneside finalising a five-year move to United. If he was on Tyneside he never finalised any deal.

2003 It was confirmed that United's Olivier Bernard would not face any criminal charges following allegations linking him to a reported rape incident in the city.

However, the club were still facing negative headlines; Craig Bellamy, Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate all still embroiled in other legal procedures.

2004 West Bromwich Albion attempted to hijack Portsmouth's bid for Lomana LuaLua but the DR Congo international made his loan switch to Fratton Park permanent for £1.75m.

2005 Newcastle midfielder Darren Ambrose became a Charlton Athletic player after an undisclosed fee was agreed.

Ambrose's Addicks debut would come at the Stadium of Plight on the opening day of the season. Ambrose wouldn't last the full 90 minutes - being red-carded in the 55th minute, although Charlton won 3-1.

2007 Marc Viduka captained Australia as they salvaged a 1-1 draw against minnows Oman an Asia Cup game in Bangkok.

2008 Despite constant speculation about the future of James Milner with links to Aston Villa and Liverpool, Kevin Keegan assured the player he had a big future at the club.

That big future turned out to be less than two months....

2013
Dan Gosling seemed certain to be on the move to Premier League new boys, Crystal Palace, for around £1m.

However, the move broke down in farcical circumstances when the player arrived in South London but wasn't met by anyone.

Gosling later joined Blackpool on loan before returning to United for a run in the first team during the closing months of the season.

2016
Newcastle's fourth summer signing was confirmed, Atletico Madrid full back Jesús Gámez signing on a two year deal.

Newcastle lost for the first time in the Premier League since the COVID-delayed season resumed, although annihilated was probably a more accurate summary.

United went into the game unbeaten in six league outings, while City had scored 14 times without reply in winning their previous quartet of home games.
