Premier League:
Chelsea (a)

Eddie Howe's side return to Premier League action today facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

30 visits in this competition have harvested just 10 points from a possible 90, with seven draws and one victory - the latter thanks to the famous Papiss Cisse brace in 2012.

It's a 5.30pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.

Team:
Speaking to the media on Friday, Eddie Howe made no mention of any new injury/illness problems, confirming that Anthony Gordon was fit to start and that benching him against Barcelona was his decision, not Gordon's.

Lewis Miley and Fabian Schar are both back in training, with the former possibly returning to the squad for Barcelona.

Bruno Guimaraes is expected to be at the Nou Camp as a spectator after returning from his rehabilitation in Brazil.

His playing return is predicted for early April; presumably that means that he won't be considered for selection when Brazil play friendlies against France and Croatia in the looming international break.

If they keep their places in the first XI, Kieran Trippier will make his 100th PL start as a Newcastle player and Lewis Hall reach a half century of PL starts for the club.

PL2:
Playoff hopes boosted

Newcastle U21s  2  Blackburn Rovers U21s  0

Robbie Stockdale's first game as Newcastle's permanent U21 coach saw his side continue their recent resurgence and maintain hopes of reaching the end of season playoffs.

The black and whites went ahead after 13 minutes at Whitley Park, Park Seung-soo evaded two defenders for Sean Neave to drive in his 13th U21 goal of the season.

United doubled their lead four minutes before half-time, Park cutting in from the left to unleash a curling right-footer - a memorable first goal on home soil for the South Korean.

Rovers custodian Blake Wolsoncroft then did well to deny the hosts a third goal before the interval, his noteworthy one-handed save keeping out Anthony Munda's header.

Munda wasn't too far away from getting a curling effort on target on 69 minutes, the best opportunity of a low-key second period when the score remained unchanged.

Victory left United four places and one point away from the cut off point of sixteenth with three games left - although other teams in a congested table have played less.

Team: Harris, M.Miley, A.Murphy (Johnson 46), Pivas, C.Thompson, Finneran, Fitzgerald, Bailey, Neave (Salia 74), Munda, Seung-soo (Mills 79).
Subs n/u: Adam Harrison, Yildiz.

Booked: Bailey

Crowd: 212

BRFC: Wolsoncroft, Mullarky-Matthews (Decandia 61), Pates, Pratt, Davies, Dunn (Ball 70), Higgins (Joseph 61), Garrett, Boggan, Tyjon, Sergeant.
Subs n/u: Thompson, Vare.

Booked: Mullarky-Matthews

Referee: Declan Brown

Earlier: Following an upturn in form since he took charge on an interim basis in January, Friday saw the Magpies confirm Robbie Stockdale as their permanent U21 Lead Coach.

The 46 year-old native of Redcar arrived at United during February 2025 as assistant to Diarmuid O'Carroll, staying in post when Adam Lawrence took charge last August.

U18s:
Late winner fells Forest

Nottingham Forest U18s  0  Newcastle U18s  1

Having returned to winning days in last Saturday's derby match, United U18s were in league action today, visiting Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

And they continued their winning ways with a last gasp strike from Sam Pinnington five minutes into added time that took the young Magpies up to third in the table behind the two Manchester sides.

More to follow.

Team: Dowell, Tika-Lemba, Bloomer, Epia, Johnson, Morgan, Pinnington, Callaghan, Wooster, Gilligan, Ferreira. Subs: Hutchison, Holland, Patterson, Ndiweni, Seldon.

The Magpies ran out 2-1 winners in the first meeting of the two sides on Tyneside back in October.

Update:

DR Congo have included Newcastle's Yoane Wissa in their squad for an intercontinental play-off later this month, with a place at the World Cup Finals up for grabs.

Premier League :
Arsenal (a) update

The chances of Newcastle's Premier League visit to the Emirates Stadium going ahead as rescheduled on Sat 25.04.2026 with a 5.30pm kick-off look to have reduced following Monday's FA Cup Quarter-final draw.

The Gunners landed a last eight visit to Championship club Southampton on or around Sat 04.04.2026, with victory in that ensuring a Semi-final at Wembley for Mikel Arteta's side rather than hosting United on Sat 25.04.2026.

Were that to happen, an alternative midweek date would be needed for our game, notwithstanding possible Champions League involvement for both or either clubs as follows:

CLQF1: Tue 07.04.2026 or Wed 08.04.2026
CLQF2: Tue 14.04.2026 or Wed 15.04.2026
CLSF1: Tue 28.04.2026 or Wed 29.04.2026
CLSF2: Tue 05.05.2026 or Wed 06.05.2026

PS: West Ham's progress to FA Cup Quarter-finals means that their PL visit to SJP on Sun 17.05.2026 remains tbc - given that the Cup Final takes place on Sat 16.05.2026.

Premier League
:
Palace (a) date still tbc

Update: Tickets are now on sale to those who previously applied holding between 15 and 27 points. Closing date is Mon 16.03.2026 at 9am or early if all are sold.

Newcastle's PL visit to Selhurst Park remains subject to alteration from the advertised 3pm KO on Sat 11.04.2026.

Were Palace to win their UEFA Conference League 16 tie versus AEK Larnaca they'd play a Quarter-final first leg on Thu 09.04.2026.

The first leg at Selhurst Park ended 0-0, with the second leg in Cyprus on
Thu 19.03.2026.

That would then see their PL home game against the Magpies delayed 24 hours to Sun 12.04.2026 - as has happened for Palace's game against Leeds this weekend*.

(*That's categorised as a PL displaced fixture, meaning that it's a 2pm KO, televised live on Sky Sports. Newcastle's game would be similarly categorised if moved).

In the event that Newcastle were to defeat Barcelona in the Champions League, the scheduling of a Quarter-final second leg on Tue 14.04.2026 or Wed 15.04.2026 would also be a factor in when the Palace game is played. That's because UEFA take no account of domestic fixture scheduling when deciding the day that Champions League ties are played.

Barcelona (a)

Following a 1-1 draw on Tyneside, the second leg of Newcastle's Champions League Round of 16 tie against Barcelona is at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.

It's a 5.45pm kick-off in the UK, 6.45pm in Spain.

Live coverage in the UK is on TNT Sports.

Should the scores be tied after 90 minutes, an additional 30 minutes of extra time will played, with a penalty shootout then following if required.

Barring an incredible second leg turnaround, the winners will face Atletico Madrid in the Quarter-finals after they beat Spurs 5-2 in the first leg of their last 16 tie.

Supporter information from NUFC is online here

No power banks of any size are permitted.

Barcelona have secured a licence raising the capacity of the unfinished Nou Camp to 62,652 with immediate effect.

As a consequence, the Newcastle allocation increased from 2,215 tickets to 2,986. They sold out on 45 points.

Due to that increased allocation, the away support has been partially relocated within the Nou Camp - rendering some previously-completed seat selections redundant.

Confirmation emails with new seats selected by NUFC are being sent to the lead booker. The opportunity to select different seats wasn't offered.

However Cordero remained among the unused substitutes - which doesn't bode well for his future at Cadiz.

Travis Hernes (Groningen):

ST holders have 24 hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to buy.

Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.

Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.

The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above that point division usually get two hours head start.

NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log on and complete your purchase.

Tickets not bought by successful applicants are offered to applicants with a reduced loyalty points total. Only those within the new loyalty point total are then eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already closed.

Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are gone.

2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.
2025/26 CL away tickets are €50 or less.

Winger who failed to make a competitive senior appearance for Newcastle, moving to Holland following his release by United.

After a season at Telstar, Colin returned to England with Torquay United but found games hard to come by at Plainmoor and joined hometown club Ashington before a spell at Blyth Spartans.

A longer second stint with Telstar followed in 1978, before Ayre moved on to Austria, appearing for Wacker Innsbruck and SPG Raika Innsbruck.

Returning to the North East, he embarked on an elongated spell in local football that saw him playing Sunday League aged 50.

Among his clubs were North Shields, Newbiggin Dolphins, Bedlington Terriers, Whitley Bay, South Bank, North Shields, Morpeth Town, Newbiggin CW, Morpeth St.Georges and Morpeth Wansbeck.

Colin's death was reported during September 2023.

1949 Graham Oates
born, Bradford.
(1976-78)

The original "Titus" was primarily a midfielder although he also appeared at centre forward and in defence - when he played at all.

Beginning his career with Manningham Mills in his home town, Graham was signed by Bradford City in 1970.

Next stop was Blackburn Rovers in an exchange deal with Don Hutchins and £10K.

From there he was acquired two years later by Newcastle (in a joint deal with 'keeper Roger Jones) by his former Ewood Park boss Gordon Lee.

After two unused substitute appearances, Graham debuted from the bench during a 4-3 home loss to Manchester United - with two of the Red's goals coming courtesy of own goals from John Bird and Pat Howard.

A full debut followed in a 1-1 draw at Coventry before the moment that was to shape his Magpies career came in his next appearance.

After just four minutes of his first home start against Leeds, Oates (playing in defence in place of Howard) contrived to register an own goal, beating his own 'keeper Mick Mahoney from fully 25 yards.

Newcastle went on to lose the game 3-2 - although Oates only transgressed once, not twice as a certain former playing colleague of his routinely asserts in talk-ins to this day (for the record, Carl Harris and Trevor Cherry were the other Leeds scorers).

That own goal and some unimpressive displays saw him fall foul of a section of the SJP crowd - who weren't impressed when Lee publicly complained about his treatment.

Oates lingered on for a year after his mentor departed for Everton but was mainly used as a substitute during the dreadful 1977/78 season that ended with our relegation.

Spells in the USA with Detroit Express and California Surf were followed by a brief return to Valley Parade in 1982, after which Oates played and managed at local non-league level in West Yorkshire.

1987 saw him appear at Scarborough and the following year he took charge at Gainsborough Trinity.

And Graham continued to play for the Whetley Lane veterans side in Bradford beyond his 50th birthday.

1975 Stephen Harper born, Easington, Durham. (1993-2013, coach 2016-19, 2019-present)

Originally a striker, Steve had only recently switched to the goalkeeping position when joining Newcastle in July 1993 - rejecting an earlier opportunity of a trial at Ipswich Town.

A senior debut came while on loan to Bradford City in 1995, while he also had temporary spells at Gateshead, Hartlepool United and Huddersfield Town (a further loan, to Rotherham United, was curtailed when the Millers miscalculated their loan quota and had to return Steve without playing him).

Harper's Magpies bow came in a home win over Wimbledon in November 1998 when coming on to replace Shay Given - Duncan Ferguson also debuting that day.

Although selected for the FA Cup Final the following May, Steve subsequently lost out on a starting place to Given and was restricted to occasional cup outings.

That included starts against Juventus and Dynamo Kiev in the 2002/03 Champions League, but even those declined - 2005/06 seeing him play just once in the first team, against Dubnica in the Intertoto Cup.

Steve then wrote his name in club history in November 2006, saving Jordan Stewart's spot kick during a penalty shootout to beat Watford in a League Cup tie - the club's first ever competitive sudden death success.

Although frequently linked with moves, Harper remained in Toon and the sale of Shay Given in January 2009 saw him finally become first-choice custodian - and taking possession of the number one shirt.

Unable to prevent United slipping out of the top flight, the 2009/10 campaign saw Steve start every Championship game, standing aside at QPR on the last day of the season to give Tim Krul his chance.

A nasty shoulder injury at Goodison Park, following a rash challenge by Everton's Jermaine Beckford, kept Harper out of the side's return to the Premier League but once he had recovered, Krul made way for Steve to resume between the sticks.

A combination of injury and Krul's fine form restricted Steve's appearances in 2011/12 and he spent a month on loan at Brighton, making five appearances for the Championship side.

With the arrival of Rob Elliot threatening Harper's place in the Magpies squad, the early part of the 2012/13 season saw him make seven further appearances, although a knee problem sidelined him when injury ruled out Tim Krul in early 2013 - resulting in bench duty for rookie Jak Alnwick.

Elliot's dismissal during United's penultimate game of the season at QPR then saw an unlikely return to the side for Harps and he took to the field for a dramatic final appearance at St. James' Park against Arsenal amid scenes of great emotion.

Joining newly-promoted Hull City during the close season, Steve returned to SJP in September for a testimonial match against AC Milan Glorie, an assortment of former players and colleagues gathering before 50,000 fans in a charity fundraiser.

Steve was on the bench for the Tigers at SJP ten days later and again when United visited Humberside in March 2014.

Deputising for Allan McGregor in a 5-3 FA Cup Semi-Final win over Sheffield United later that season, Harper remained on the  bench at Wembley as Hull were beaten 3-2 by Arsenal in the Final.

However, he did make enough senior team starts to trigger an automatic one year contract extension at the KC Stadium.

March 2015 then found him turning 40 as one of the unused Hull substitutes for a 0-0 draw away at Leicester City.

Harps was released by the Tigers two months later, joining the mackems as cover the following January.

However, he failed to make a single senior appearance for the red and whites before leaving at the end of that season.

Returning to SJP as an Academy coach in August 2016, Steve continued to work as a media pundit and referee's assessor also studying for a Sport Directorship qualification at Manchester Metropolitan University.

In March 2019, Northern Ireland boss and ex-Magpie, Michael O'Neill appointed Steve to his coaching staff while still retaining his role working with NUFC Academy goalkeepers.

Harper followed fellow old boys Willie McFaul, Dave Beasant and Tommy Wright in holding that international post
.

Stepping down from his role at Newcastle's Academy that May, by November 2019 he was back at SJP, joining Steve Bruce's staff - although not as specific first team goalkeeping coach.

Switching to a position liaising between the senior and development squads, 2021 brought a further change of role - taking interim charge of the Academy - a position that was made permanent that July.

In September 2023 Steve suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage - a rare stroke caused by bleeding on the surface of the brain. Happily, he made a full recovery.

PS: July 2007 saw Steve reprise his previous outfield role when appearing as a late sub in a home friendly against Celtic.

Wearing a hastily-printed number 13 shirt, Harper replaced Nicky Butt after 80 minutes - with United having used all of their subs except him and Krul.

1990 Tamas Kadar born Veszprém, Hungary. (2008-12)

Left-sided defender who was signed from  Zalaegerszegi in his native Hungary after a short trial in December 2007 (also training with Bolton Wanderers while in England).

Although scouted while Sam Allardyce was in charge at SJP, Kevin Keegan had taken over by the time Tamas made his competitive debut for the club in a reserve win at the smoggies in January 2008.

Previously capped by the Magyars at U19 and U21 level, Tamas was called into the senior squad in May 2008, but failed to play after aggravating a knee problem in training (he finally made a full international debut against Lithuania in 2011).

After his bid for fitness was hindered by a hamstring strain, Tamas returned to reserve action in November 2008, playing for a spell in the left back position.

Forcing his way into the first team squad, another injury blow came when he sustained a broken leg in a reserve match against the mackems in January 2009.

That sidelined Tamas for the rest of the season, but he resumed playing in when United began their pre-season programme away at Shamrock Rovers in July 2009.

A competitive senior debut at home to Huddersfield Town in the Carling Cup then followed a month later and a Championship bow as a late substitute against Leicester City on the last day of August.

The 2010/11 season saw two Carling Cup appearances for Tamas before a loan spell was agreed with Lee Clark's Huddersfield Town in January 2011.

After just two games at left back for the League One side however, injury forced Kadar back to Tyneside for treatment.

2011/12 saw Tamas on the fringes of the first team squad again but despite injuries and suspensions he wasn't selected and became a free agent in summer 2012.

After leaving United, Kadar had a brief trial at Portsmouth, before joining Dutch club Roda JC after a successful trial.

Loaned to Hungarians Diósgyőri VTK in 2013 a permanent transfer later followed but by January 2015 Tamas was on the move again - joining Poles Lech Poznan.

Another January transfer window switch came in 2017, signing a four year deal at Ukrainianside Dynamo Kiev.

2020 saw Kadar was off to pastures new, joining Shandong Luneng Taishan in China. A subsequent loan switch then took him to fellow Super League side Tianjin Tigers.

Returning to Hungary in early 2022 with Ujpest, further moves took him to Paksi and then MTK in his home country.

1991 Facundo Ferreyra born, Lomas de Zamora, Argentina. (2014-15)

File under bizarre.

Day two of a pre-season tournament in Germany saw Newcastle unexpectedly field this 23 year-old striker who had signed on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Fighting in Ukraine saw "Chucky" refuse to rejoin his parent club and via a friendship with United captain Fabricio Coloccini, a season-long loan was agreed for a player who came to prominence with Banfield and Velez Sarsfield in his native Argentina.

After two more friendlies, a scoring debut for the reserves against Bolton came in an apparent bid for match fitness.

However, that proved to be the high point of Ferreyra's time as a Magpie, further reserve outings unremarkable and several first team bench selections never leading to a competitive senior bow.

Unsurprisingly, United failed to take up a £6m option to sign the player and he went back to Shakthar the following summer - having supposedly struggled to cope with the physicality of the Premier League (although he never actually played in it!)

After a low-key first season however, he produced successive 20 goal+ hauls as his side won back-to-back domestic league and cup doubles, netting in both the Europa and Champions League. Incredible.

June 2018 saw the free agent sign for Portuguese side Benfica, who won the race for his services with a claimed £5m signing on fee and £1.8m annual wage.

But after a handful of appearances he was loaned to Espanyol until June 2020 and released from his contract the following January - whereupon he joined Celta Vigo.

Later moves took him to Mexicans Tijuana before a number of clubs in his native Argentina: Independiente, Argentinos Juniors, Sarmiento and Tigre.

2009 Isaac Moran born Liverpool.
(2025-present)

England youth international central defender / midfielder who joined United in August 2025 after leaving Liverpool, debuting for the U18s during a Premier League win at Leicester City soon after.

Making the briefest of bows for the U21s in a PL2 game at Aston Villa the following February, Isaac's 17th birthday in 2026 then brought confirmation of his first professional contract at Gallowgate.

Pantomime time at SJP: Kevin Keegan took his place on the bench after kick off and left before full time.

Post-match radio reports speculated that he had in fact resigned as manager. John Hall was interviewed and feigned ignorance, while callers jammed Radio Five's 606 programme to express their anger and consternation.

Having failed to get the promised funds to sign on-loan Brian Kilcline permanently, KK had apparently walked out in disgust, commenting "it's not like it was in the brochure"

A deeply disappointing result at White Hart Lane but a heartening performance from Bobby's boys although we failed to force an error from suspect Spurs keeper Casey Keller.

It was a travesty of a result on the balance of play but Andy O'Brien, whose late own goal won it for the hosts, wasn't at fault with Robbie Keane ready to side foot home behind our man.

At the other end, a blatant penalty for a trip on Aaron Hughes by Taricco wasn't given by referee Howard Webb, incensing Bobby Robson and many of his players.
