Update:
Alex Cropley
RIP

The death of
former Magpie Alex Cropley has been confirmed. He was 75.
Arriving on Tyneside on loan from Aston Villa in January 1980, the
midfielder's struggled to influence Newcastle's faltering bid to
gain promotion from the Second Division.
Struggling for fitness after several injuries, Cropley
made his Magpies debut in a 0-1 loss at Wrexham, keeping his place
for a 0-0 home draw against Birmingham City and a 1-3 reverse away
to Shrewsbury Town before exiting.
Winning
two Scotland caps despite his Aldershot birthplace, Alex began his
career
at Hibernian in 1969 before joining Arsenal five years later, where
he suffered two broken legs.
Sold to Aston Villa in 1976 he was part of their League Cup winning
side the following year.
After his brief loan spell at SJP, Cropley returned to Villa Park before
a year in Canada with Toronto Blizzard. A brief period with
Portsmouth was then truncated by injury.
Returning to Edinburgh, Cropley ran a pub in the Portobello area of the city
before becoming a taxi driver.
A dementia diagnosis sadly came in
December 2020.
Update:
Botman blow
From NUFC, Monday:
Newcastle United
defender Sven Botman has undergone successful surgery on a
facial fracture.
Following concussion protocol,
the Dutchman was substituted after suffering the injury during the
second half of Sunday's game against Sunderland at St. James' Park.
Sven is not expected to be
sidelined for an extended period and hopes to be available again
during the closing weeks of the season.

Introduced in 2015/16, the latest agreement to retain the fixed
price covers both 2026/27 and 2027/28
- welcome news, but only partly offsetting the increased costs of
getting to away games cynically rescheduled for live TV.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division usually get two hours head start.
NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log
on and complete your purchase.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants are offered to applicants with a
reduced loyalty points total. Only those within the new loyalty point total are
then eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already
closed.
Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are
gone.
2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.

Born Or Died:
1952
Death of Andy McCombie, 75.
(1904-10)

1986 Ben
Webster born, Alnwick
(2003-05)

Midfielder who appeared for United at
both academy and reserve levels, earning England caps at both U16 and
U17 level.
Following his release in 2005, Ben had
trials at Cardiff City, Carlisle United,
Crewe and
Rochester Rhinos in the USA before
signing for Swedish club Vasteras SK.
Homesickness prompted a return after two
years, a trial at St. Johnstone
coming to nothing. Signing for
Newcastle Blue Star, Ben then faced the
Magpies in a 2007 pre-season friendly at
Kingston Park, by which time he was playing
at right back.
He later trained with Berwick Rangers and
was playing for Alnwick Town when the offer
of a two year contract with Finnish side
MyPa 47 came in 2009.
Ben then surfaced at Belgium side
Charleroi before appearing for Raj Pracha in
Thailand.
Forced to retire due to a knee problem, he returned to Northumberland and set up his
own personal fitness training business. 2018
Death of Bobby Ferguson, 80.

Giles(14)

A game forever remembered by the select few who were present (including
your correspondent), for the sight
of Wrexham keeper Dai Davies having the wind blow his
goal-kick out for a corner....
Terry Hibbitt later said that he was close to collapse from exhaustion
and exposure, as driving rain turned to sleet and ice.
The game was restaged some six weeks later in weather
conditions that were, if anything, even worse than for
this abandonment. Newcastle won that 2-0.

Cole(60), Lee(62)
Saville(32), Rodgerson(38)
27,087
A stormy Sunday at SJP, as Andy Saville and Ian Rodgerson put the Blues two ahead, much to
the delight of their owner David Sullivan in the
director's box.
Two quick goals sent home fans into
raptures and one in particular confirmed the score to Mr
Sullivan in a rather forceful manner - for which he
temporarily lost his season ticket.

1994 Newcastle
reserves lost 1-0 at home to Leicester City, with central
defender Brian Reid playing for the opening 45 minutes.
Reid made a loan move until the end of the season,

Just a week before their FA Cup Semi final meeting

Lee with a hamstring injury picked up after putting his
side ahead.
Stuart Pearce diverted a cross beyond Shay Given before a
late goalmouth scramble saw referee Graham Barber penalise
Newcastle for handball, with you know who scoring the pen.
