NUFC: investment claim
From Reuters, Monday:
Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund PIF is in talks with
investors over them taking a minority stake in Newcastle United as
part of its fundraising plans for the Premier League club's
stadium, three people familiar with the matter said.
PIF, chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is weighing
up expanding the club's current stadium or building a new one and
could issue new shares to a prospective new backer of the plans, one
of the people said.
Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson told Reuters that the club was
considering building a new stadium, while a renovation would cost
in the hundreds of millions of pounds.
A new stadium could cost in excess of £1bn ($1.34bn), said
Hopkinson, who referred questions about the talks involving PIF to
the Saudi fund itself.
Saudi Arabia's PIF declined to comment.
Another option to raise new funds includes a potential
securitisation of Newcastle's commercial revenue, the person said,
adding no decision has been made yet on the investment.
The club is also preparing to open a new multimillion-pound
expansion of its training centre that will extend its footprint by
more than 50%, Newcastle said last month.
2026/27:
ST
waiting
list open
now
NUFC confirm that the season ticket waiting list for
next season is now open, with a minimum of 250 available.
Entry to the waiting list is restricted to members, who can
sign up until Sun 31.05.2026.
A ballot will then take place with entrants placed in priority
groups according to criteria set by the club. Ballot winners can
then purchase season tickets from Wed 10.06.2026.
While the purchase of a 2026/27 membership isn't required to join
the waiting list, anyone who doesn't win this ballot would need to
continue paying for membership in order to maintain their place in
the queue for future ST releases.
While the minimum figure of 250 for 2026/27 is set, there's no
mention of how many STs will be offered thereafter.

Premier League:
Where there's a
Will....
Newcastle 3 West Ham 1
Match action is online here
Newcastle ended their home campaign with arguably one of their
best performances of the season against a West Ham side that were supposedly
fighting for their lives.
Will Osula made it five goals in six games with a strike in each
half and Nick Woltemade scored his first Premier League goal of
2026, as the
Hammers were dispatched with surprising ease at St. James' Park on
Sunday evening.
Spurs now just need a point from their remaining two games to
condemn the visitors to the Championship; the David Moyes'
inspired European Conference League success now a distant memory for the
beleaguered Eastenders.
But Eddie Howe's black and whites are still in contention for an
unlikely European spot although they would need four results to go
their way on the final day of the season, depending on Chelsea's
penultimate game against Spurs on Tuesday.*
Newcastle got off to a lightning start and went ahead in the 15th
minute, taking advantage of another loose pass from the visitors
with Harvey Barnes doing well to tee up Woltemade who finished with
an accurate sidefoot from six yards at the Leazes End.
The lead was doubled just four minutes later when possession was
gained again and some slick passing saw Jacob Ramsey put Osula
through on goal with the Dane showing great poise to slot the ball
under the advancing Mads Hermansen.
Tomas Soucek had been cleared of a handball penalty shout before the
goals after a Bruno Guimaraes cross was whipped into the box.
A tactical change from Nuno Espirito Santo paid off for his side,
creating some openings and Soucek and ex-Magpie Callum
Wilson could have done better with a cross from the left, while Nick Pope made an
unorthodox double save to deny substitute Taty Castellanos.
After the break, there were chances at both ends as West Ham tried
to get back into the game with Lewis Hall, Barnes and Bruno all
going close while Crysencio Summerville's dribbling caused problems
for the Magpies defence.
However, the contest was over in the 65th minute when another swift
counter attack saw substitute Joe Willock break into the box and
unselfishly lay the ball on a plate for Osula to claim his second.
The goal of the game came four minutes later when Castellanos
swivelled and hit a superb dipping effort over Pope to give his side
some hope of a dramatic late comeback.
But even Newcastle couldn't throw away a three goal advantage and
although Castellanos grazed the bar and there were two or three
penalty claims, United held out for the victory.
Kieran Trippier was substituted in the 85th minute; both he and the
departing Emil Krafth were given fine send-offs before the game and at half-time
respectively.

The staff and players went on a traditional lap of honour to thank
the home fans after the final whistle after what has been a marathon
and memorable season.
Full match report to follow.
* Should Chelsea fail to beat Spurs on Tuesday then the following set of
results would see Newcastle finish eighth and qualify for the Europa
Conference:
Fulham 0-2 Newcastle
Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
(any three goal swing that gives us a better goals "for" than
Brentford)
mackems 0-0 Chelsea (any draw)
Spurs 0-0 Everton (anything other than a five goal win
for Everton)
Team:
Pope, Trippier (Elanga 85), Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Ramsey, Tonali (Willock
53), Guimaraes, Barnes (J.Murphy 75), Woltemade (Burn 75), Osula (Wissa
85).
Subs n/u: Ramsdale, A.Murphy,
Gordon, Neave.
Booked: Hall.
Goals:
Woltemade 15,
Osula 19, 65,
WHUFC:
Hermansen, Disasi, Mavropanos, Todibo (Castellanos 26), Wan-Bissaka
(Pablo 63), Soucek (Kante 63), Fernandes, Diouf, Bowen, Summerville,
Wilson.
Subs n/u: Areola, Kilman, Magassa, Potts, Scarles,
Walker-Peters.
Booked: Soucek, Diouf, Kante.
Goals: Castellanos 69.
Crowd: 52,206 including a sold out section of away followers
who stuck with their team at 0-2 but then gave them untold grief
after the final whistle singing, "you're not fit to wear the
shirt".
Home areas were fairly restrained with just one rendition of
"f*** off to the Championship" and one very quiet airing of
"he's only a poor little Hammer". A dwindling number of folk
probably get that reference these days with even fewer knowing where
the tune came from...!
After the game Eddie Howe said:
"It was a strong performance from us. I was really
pleased with a lot of aspects of our game today.
"Our attitude to the game (allowed for a fast start) -
it would have been easy for people to look at this and say Newcastle
had nothing to play for - but we have a duty to be at our very best
and I'm pleased with how we went about it. We have a lot of players
who play with pride and would never want to let the club down.
"It wasn't the perfect game from us but it was very good in
phases, especially in the first half. I thought we were excellent with the ball, really creative.
"I think we've seen real progression in the last few weeks. A much
better performance. We're showing signs we're beginning to re-find our form."
On Kieran Trippier:
"Delighted for him personally. Knowing Kieran as well as I do now,
he is brilliant on the pitch but it's off the pitch as well, the
stabilising effect he has in the dressing room, positivity in
difficult moments and the way he inspires the players - he's a
really inspiring leader and, wherever he goes, the club will be very
lucky."
Kieran Trippier:
"The most important thing today was the win, of course it was, we
need to start getting wins fast. West Ham were fighting for
different reasons. My last ever game at St James' Park, so it was
emotional, especially more so now, my children were here and the
supporters were fantastic.
"Like I do in every game since I joined the club I always try
to do my best. it doesn't always happen, but I am an honest guy and
player. The first half we did very well. Most games this season we
have started the second half slowly but the most important thng was
the three points.
"Bruno (Guimaraes) was top. He's captain but he wanted me to
lead the team out. It was a bit emotional before I walked out.
"My oldest son is 10 and he could see all the pictures of me on the
other side and he understands more. I had my three children with me
and they all noticed the flags. You have to try to be professional
and focus on the game at hand.
"I'd just like to thank the fans for everything they've done
for me since I've been at the club. They supported me through good
performances and bad performances, unbelievable people. A great
city."
Referee: Jarred Gillett - third appointment in the middle
involving Newcastle this season, following the 1-2 home defeat by
Arsenal and 0-2 loss to Aston Villa at SJP.
Another non-decision maker who let VAR do his job.
VAR: Craig Pawson (who also seemed happy not to overrule
the onfield indecision).
Stats:
Nick Woltemade reached a half century of league and cup
appearances for Newcastle, Malick Thiaw made his 50th start
in all competitions and Joe Willock came off the bench in a
Premier League game for the 50th time as a Magpie.
Will Osula and Nick Woltemade both now have eight PL
goals to their name for United, drawing level in the PL club
scoring charts with
Philippe Albert, Ciaran Clark, Lee Clark, Duncan
Ferguson, Temuri Ketsbaia and Matt Ritchie.
With one game of the season remaining, Eddie Howe's side have scored
98 goals in all competitions (53 in the PL, 45 in cups).

Update:
Krafth bows out
Newcastle have confirmed the departure of Emil Krafth,
ending a seven season posting on Tyneside for the 31 year-old
Swedish defender.
A £5m arrival from
French side Amiens hours on transfer deadline day in August 2019,
Stockholm-born Krafth made the first of his 106 appearances in all
competitions in a 1-3 Premier League defeat at Norwich City that
month.
Initially utilised at right back, Emil also lined up in central
defence during his time at United, but a succession of injuries
affected his availability for club and country.
The 2022/23 campaign would be a particular low point, featuring
regularly in pre-season only to suffer a cruciate ligament tear in
the League Cup at Tranmere Rovers.
That kept him out of action for over a year, before other issues
including a broken collarbone and knee problems continued to disrupt
his availability thereafter.
Extending his contract in 2022, 2024 and 2025, what proved to be his
final senior appearance was a 45 minute runout at West Ham during
November 2025.
Krafth made 84 PL appearances (54 starts) from a possible 266 in
that competition, his one competitive goal coming against Manchester
City at an empty SJP in the COVID-restricted 2020/21 season.
Unable to get on the pitch in either Champions League campaigns
during his time at United, more positively he was a late substitute
at Wembley in the Carabao Cup Final success against Liverpool in
March 2025.
Update:
Wooden spoon avoided

Newcastle's debut
at the International U19 football tournament in the Swiss
town of Altstatten saw them record a seventh place finish at the
eight team event.
The Magpies began their three group games on Friday by defeating
Danes Brondby 1-0, defender Henry Johnson on target with four
minutes of the scheduled 40 to play.
0-1 defeats at the hands of Croatians Dinamo Zagreb and Swiss side St.Gallen
left United bottom of their four team group, consigning them to a
7th/8th place playoff on Saturday against Nottingham Forest.
That finished 2-0 to Newcastle, thanks to goals from Kyle Fitzgerald
and Kacey Wooster.
Update:
Tigers v Saints
The race to join Coventry
City and Ipswich Town in next season's Premier League continues with
the two sides who will contest the Championship playoff final now
confirmed.
Hull City secured
their place with a 2-0 win at Millwall on Monday after a scoreless
first leg, 24 hours before a 2-1 home success for Southampton
over Boro in extra time - again coming after the first leg had ended
0-0.
The Tigers will face the Saints at Wembley Stadium on Saturday
May 23rd, unless their punishment for the ongoing EFL charge
over alleged spying alters either the teams competing, the match
date - or perhaps both.

2026/27:
Pre-season whispers
Update 1: Newcastle World
have mentioned that French League Strasbourg could visit Gallowgate
in pre-season.
Update 2: Unconfirmed claims
have surfaced on Everton fansites of a pre-season fixture for the Toffees
against Newcastle at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium.
This isn't the first time that a Magpie visit to the home of Scottish rugby
has been mentioned, similar claims emerging ahead of two recent seasons but
no fixture arranged.
Manchester United played friendly matches at Murrayfield ahead of both the
2023/24 and 2024/25 PL seasons.
Earlier: With plans for long haul warm-up
games abandoned, the focus has turned to whereabouts in Europe Newcastle
will be preparing for their 2026/27 PL season.
After previous talk of Austria and Portugal, The Mail
report that a training camp is planned at the Spanish resort of La
Manga, with one associated friendly fixture.
The Chronicle meanwhile claim that Serie A side AS Roma have
been invited to play at Gallowgate.

Loan lads
Odysseas Vlachodimos (Seville):
Seville enhanced their chances of avoiding relegation from La Liga
by coming back from 0-2 down to win 3-2 at Villarreal on Wednesday.
The on-loan Magpie continued in goal.
Matt Targett (Middlesbrough):
Boro's hopes of reaching the Championship promotion playoff final
perished with a 1-2
semi-final loss at Southampton on Tuesday night after a scoreless
first leg on Teesside.
Matt made the 45th and final appearance of his Boro loan spell this
season, completing the full 120 minutes as the tie was decided in extra
time.
Harrison Ashby/Joe White (Bradford City):
Neither Magpie featured on Thursday as a 0-1 home loss at the hands
of Bolton Wanderers saw the Trotters advance to the League One
promotion playoff final at Wembley.
Antonio Cordero (Cadiz)
Friday saw Cadiz draw 1-1 away to
Castellon
with Cordero playing the full game and taking the corner kick that
led to his side's valuable equaliser.
The point leaves them fourth
bottom of La Liga 2, four points clear of the relegation places but having
played a game more than the bottom three.
Travis Hernes (Groningen):
Travis joined from the bench in the 61st minute as his side won 2-1
at Heracles in Eredivisie on Sunday. He was booked in the 90th minute.
Trevan Sanusi (Lorient):
No sign of our man in the squad as Lorient lost 0-2 at home to Le
Havre in Ligue 1 on
Sunday.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above

Born Or Died:
1958 Howard Gayle born, Toxteth, Liverpool. (1982-83)

An injury to Kevin Keegan in November 1982 prompted United to
enter the loan market for Liverpool reserve midfielder Gayle.
First sighted in a midweek home friendly against Dynamo
Kiev, Gayle then debuted in a 2-0 victory over Cambridge United at SJP the following
Saturday.
Showing flashes of good form, Gayle's month-long loan was then extended and he
found the net in successive games against Derby County and Grimsby Town over the festive
period.
The return of Keegan to the side then saw Howard return to Anfield, where he'd
been on the books since 1974 but played only five first team games for the
Reds.
That had included a European Cup semi final against Bayern Munich when he came
on for the injured Kenny Dalglish and tormented the Germans with his pace.
The 1979/80 season saw him on loan at Fulham and he departed from Liverpool in
summer 1983, joining Birmingham City.
Moving on to the mackems in 1984, Gayle was dismissed on his
return to SJP on New Years Day 1985.
Later transfers took him to the Dallas Sidekicks (USA) and Stoke City, before
signing for Blackburn Rovers in 1987.
Six seasons at Ewood Park included a rare run of goalscoring in 1988/89, when
he managed a career best total of nineteen.
Following Gayle's departure in 1992, he played for Halifax Town and Accrington
Stanley before hanging up his boots.
The former England U21 international then returned to his native Toxteth and
became involved as a coach at the Stanley House Youth Football Club.
2016 saw Gayle's autobiography "61 minutes in Munich"
published - an unflinching account of his life and career.
That same year he hit the headlines after refusing a nomination for an MBE in
the Queen's Honours List due to the suffering of his forefathers during the
British Empire.
As part of his work for the Show Racism the Red Card initiative, Howard
said of his playing career that:
"When I played for Newcastle & sunderland, the fans were great,
both on and off the pitch. But when I was an opposition player at St.
James’s Park, I was spat at, there were monkey noises, and all sorts of
racist abuse.
"It wasn’t pleasant, but sadly it was something I had become used to.
"

1968 Jeff Wrightson born, Walker.
(1985-87)

A graduate of Wallsend Boys Club, Jeff was part of Newcastle's
1985 FA Youth Cup -winning side along with the likes of Paul Gascoigne, Ian
Bogie and Kevin Scott.
A senior debut came at SJP on Boxing Day 1986 in place of the absent David
McCreery. Unfortunately that was a 0-4 beating by Everton and United also lost
the other three games that season Jeff played in.
After the Everton game, boss Willie McFaul admitted that Jeff
wasn't ready for the first team and that his selection had been a mistake.
Hardly a confidence booster...
Released in the summer of 1987, former Magpie John McGrath recruited Jeff for
Preston North End, where his team mates included Sam Allardyce. Ian
Bogie would later follow him to Deepdale.
During five years there, Wrightson scored from the halfway line in a
League Cup tie at Scarborough and endured an FA Cup giant-killing by Whitley
Bay (although he didn't feature at Hillheads).
Following trials at Yeovil Town, Blackpool & Darlington, Jeff signed for
Gateshead in 1992, making over 200 appearances in
a five year period for the Tynesiders.
After later spells at Spennymoor United, Blyth
Spartans and Walker Central, Jeff began coaching under Central boss and former
PNE colleague, Ian Bogie.
The duo then joined Gateshead in April 2007, guiding them to successive
promotions and a place in the Conference.
Jeff confirmed his departure due to his work commitments at a furniture
company in 2010, the Tynesiders having opted to go full-time from the
following season.
Jeff's son Kieran followed in his father's footsteps, appearing at academy and
reserve level for Newcastle between 2006 and 2009.
Later joining Gateshead, he played for various local non-league sides, winning
the FA Vase with North Shields in 2015.

1978 Death of Norman Smith, 80.
The former Magpies boss
collapsed after visiting St.James' Park.

weeks had joined Belgians Charleroi.
1982 While his side were in action at Hartlepool,

In goal for the home side was one Richard Wilson, who
presumably "didn't believe it" when John

Injuries to George Reilly and Tony Cunningham meant that
Neil McDonald was pushed into a forward role and struck
what proved to be the winner from fully 30 yards out.

2006 Nobby Solano
followed in the footsteps of fellow Magpies Nicos Dabizas,
Andy Griffin and Stuart Pearce by emerging relatively
unscathed from a serious car crash.
Nobby was taken to
hospital in Lima, but only suffered a minor injury to the
part of his body least used on the pitch - his
forehead.
He blamed himself and
jet-lag for the accident when he said afterwards:
"Thank God I'm fine. It was because of driving fast.
I hit the pavement and lost control of the car. I think
I've felt the time changing between England and
Peru." 2022
