2024/25:
Brighton (h)

Following the international break, Newcastle restart their Premier League programme by welcoming the Seagulls to Gallowgate on Saturday.

It's an old-fashioned 3pm kick-off.

Team:
Kieran Trippier has reportedly suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out until early December.

There's optimism that Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak could return, along with fellow absentee Lewis Miley.  Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman remain out.

Joelinton is one booking away from an automatic one game suspension.

Coral rate this match as follows:

NUFC win
21/20
The draw 11/4
BHAFC win
12/5

New customers receive a £20 bet when staking £5 (T's & C's apply). Find those markets online here

BHAFC:
Adam Webster, Jan Paul van Hecke, Joao and Matt O'Reilly are all unavailable while Georginio Rutter is doubtful after he withdrew from international duty.

Solly March, Simon Adringa and former Magpie James Milner could return after injury.

Now 38, Milner has played at SJP in the Premier League for Leeds United, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool so far in his career.

Albion have won one, drawn one and lost the other one of their three PL away games to date.

Their 3-0 success at Everton was followed by a 1-1 draw at Arsenal and a 2-4 reverse at Chelsea.

Referee: Peter Bankes - a second Toon appointment of the season for the Lancashire-based whistler, following the 1-3 loss at Fulham in September.

On This Day in History
16th October

Born Or Died:

1930 John Ryan born, Alloa, Scotland.
(1959-60)

A cook at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire, John was spotted by a Charlton Athletic scout playing for local village side Bradenstoke at Swindon Town's County Ground.

Joining the Addicks during late 1954 from Chippenham Town, the forward nicknamed "Buck" after a popular newspaper comic strip averaged almost a goal every other a game in his 63 senior appearances.

Joining Newcastle in March 1959, Ryan made a scoring debut for the reserves in a 6-1 win at Leeds United and hit a hat trick against Sheffield Wednesday a month later at SJP.

However he was unable to force his way into the Magpies' first team and left in 1960, initially signing for Bristol City.

Making only a handful of appearances at Ashton Gate, John moved on to Bedford Town before becoming a fireman back in Lyneham.

His death was reported in August 2008.

1986 Chris Shanks born, Ashington.
(2002-07)

Academy/Reserve defender/ midfielder who began his career with Alnwick Juniors, Bedlington Juniors and Amble Juniors.

Joining Newcastle aged 10, Chris signed a four year professional contract in 2004, but failed to progress sufficiently and was released in Summer 2007.

Having had trials at both St.Mirren and Hamilton Academical in his final year at SJP, Chris then trained with Carlisle United, Darlington and Stockport County but failed to win a deal.

Signing for Blyth Spartans, he later played for Amble, Ashington, Morpeth Town and Ryton & Crawcrook.

2005 Stephen Carr announced his retirement from international football:

"I have made my decision, and there is no going back for me now. I just feel the time is right to call it a day with Ireland. It was disappointing for the squad, the manager, and the whole country that we didn't qualify for the World Cup."

Less than a year later he turned out for the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2008 qualifier against Germany....

2006 Newcastle Reserves began their Northumberland Senior Cup defence with a 3-0 win over their Northern Alliance opponents from the East end of Toon, Walker Central.

Fabricio Coloccini's added time header salvaged a point after old boy Charles N'Zogbia had threatened to plunge us into the mire.

Colo headed home a corner after substitute Shola Ameobi had earlier reduced the deficit.

Two disastrous first half minutes had seen Zog inexplicably allowed to head past Tim Krul from eight yards with two defenders helpless.

Seconds later N'Zogbia was afforded time and space to control the ball and shoot home to leave United trailing 0-2 at the break.

2012 Almost a year to the day after they first appeared, the signs erected in a failed attempt to "showcase" the stadium naming rights were disappearing from what always was, is and shall remain, St. James' Park.

2015 It proved to be sixth time lucky for the reserves, recording a first win of the season at Fulham's Craven Cottage.

Second half goals from Gael Bigirimana and Ivan Toney secured a 2-0 success for Peter Beardsley's side.

Newcastle left Old Trafford with a rare point and even rarer clean sheet, but after dominating the first half when Joelinton hit the goalframe twice in the same move were slightly disappointed not to have won.

A glaring late miss from home substitute Marcus Rashford ensured that the Magpies ended their five match losing run here.
