Newcastle U21s remain pointless after reaching the halfway point in their Premier League Cup group participation this season after another reverse on Monday.

The tie was switched from Bramall Lane to the Glanford Park home of Scunthorpe United and played behind closed doors.

The Blades went ahead in the 29th minute as an attempted back pass from James Huntley was woefully short and Frankie Maguire was on to it to stab beyond Jude Smith.

But the Magpies got back level before the break in the sixth minute of added time when Lewis Miley headed home from close range.

The hosts went back in front in the 71st minute when debutant teenager Billy Blacker burst down the right and crossed low for Owen Hampson to side-foot home.
