Newcastle U21s collected their first PL2 away success of the season at a damp Bodymoor Heath on Friday night.

Ahead through Joe White, Villa levelled during first half time added on before Josh Scott's close range-effort on the hour was enough to secure all three points.

United's first goal effort worthy of note was a 16th minute shot from Jay Turner-Cooke that pinged off the crossbar and out of play.

The visitors were forced into a change five minutes later, Michael Ndiweni replacing an ailing Lewis Miley.

The black an whites went ahead midway through the first half, Matty Bondswell's cross from the left flank smashed home first-time from 18 yards by Joe White.

Villa missed a glaring opportunity to level seconds into added time when Declan Frith looped a header over the bar.

However the teams went in level after Chisom Ofoka's centre was headed down by Frith for Ruben Shakpoke to fire past Jude Smith.

Into the second period and pressure from United on the hour mark paid off; White's shot testing goalkeeper Josh Lane before Josh Scott was in the right place to prod home a loose ball after Lane blocked Turner-Cooke's attempt on goal.

Home substitute Kobei Moore looked a certain scorer when clean through four minutes from the end of normal time, but thankfully put his shot wide.

Elliott Dickman's side had conceded an equaliser in the fourth minute of added time in their last game versus Boro, but successfully kept the Villans out in the additional eight minutes played tonight.

After failing to take a single point from their opening three games, United are now unbeaten in four outings - their best run of form in PL2 since 2019.
