Tommy
Craig commented: "The main plus to come out of the game was that the first team fringe players got 90 minutes of football and that was important for the Club. "Kieron
Dyer did well for us in the 60 minutes he played, he was bright and busy
and we only took him off as he was beginning to tire." "It is a great feeling to be playing again in a Newcastle shirt and I'm reasonably pleased with how things went tonight. "The sharpness and the fitness will undoubtedly come back with the more games I play but I really enjoyed playing again. The more games I play the better I will get. "I felt absolutely no discomfort from my shin at all and was able to run freely. To get an hour under my belt already is a big bonus. "I even took a hefty whack on my shin in the second half and although the tackle hurt, there were no lasting effects and that is obviously very pleasing for me. "It's a shame we ended up losing because we started well and had a very strong team out. I'm looking forward to playing again soon and will be working hard in training in the next couple of days to try and get the manager to give me a spot on the bench to face my home-town club Ipswich on Sunday. That would be a wonderful way for my comeback to continue."
Kieron Dyer played for an hour in his first competitive game for over nine months and did enough to suggest he may be on the bench in Sunday's game at Ipswich. However, his team mates were distinctly uninspiring and deservedly lost at the Reebok. Gavilan and Griffin were the pick of our lot with the latter having a running battle with Bolton's Japanese youngster, Akinori Nishizawa. Shirts: All wore long sleeves except Barton and Acuna and Gavilan's looked like it still had the price ticket on. Dyer handed his no.7 shirt to a lucky recipient in the crowd.
