Coach Tommy Craig commented to
.cock:
"Colin's got the knack of being in the right place at the right
time. In truth, he could have had eight or nine but i'm not
complaining."
To
follow
Colin McMenamin grabbed all
five goals for Tommy Craig's reserves in the scenic location of St.James'
Park, Alnwick.
United trailed 2-0
early on but McMenamin pulled one back before half-time before finishing the
job in some style with four second half goals in a ten minute burst.
This
bettered his four goal haul last year against Ponteland in the
Northumberland Senior Cup, and reinforced his growing reputation as a goal
poacher of some renown.
The game saw debuts for Ryan Hogg, Chris
Moore, Craig Robson, Robert Kent and Paul Dunn at this level as Tommy was
forced to play an inexperienced side due to first team commitments
elsewhere. In fact, three of the lads had come on as subs earlier in
the day as a junior side lost 1-0 to Darlington's youngsters at Durham.
Despite the fine weather, only a small crowd were present to see the
match, as the first team's Intertoto tie away at 1860 Munich was being
televised live on channel 5. Inevitably this also meant that Bobby Robson
wasn't around - the first reserve game he's missed this season.
