Monday saw Newcastle U21s in action at the ARMCO Arena home of National League side Solihull Moors, facing a West Bromwich Albion side unbeaten in their previous seven U21 outings.

The hosts fielded over-age pair Daryl Dike and Semi Ajayi as they returned to fitness but soon lost the services of Kev Mfuamba to injury.

United's Garang Kuol saw an early effort shave the crossbar but Albion led 1-0 at the interval, an Akeel Higgins shot from distance on 36 minutes that gave goalkeeper James Taylor no chance.

Ex-Celtic striker Eseoso Sule netted in the 47th and 72nd minutes to give Albion a commanding advantage, before a late United surge saw Jay Turner-Cooke get one back on 88 minutes with a curling effort.

Albion then retained their two goal lead when Kuol was dubiously denied by an offside call and another effort was cleared off the line by Muhamed Diomande.
